8 years ago — Jisoo's POV

How can she just walk out on me like that?!

Me!

I open the door and see her hastily walking to the restroom; no doubt to fix whatever had happened when we were making out.

I raise my fingers to my lips and immediately I'm met with the sensation of her lips on mine. So soft. So sweet.

I had been with plenty of women.

Plenty in my 300 years of existence.

And not one of them made me feel so....content as when I had Jennie in my arms.

The feeling was completely different when I kissed her.

All the humanlike royals in the family are made from sea foam. The ocean's churning currents created me and my family as a way to rule and protect the ocean from harm.

And every Royal has a pearl connected to them.

My mother and father were each other's pearls but they sadly passed away a few years ago. Natural causes. Both of them had been over 1000 years old.

And they told me when I was little that I would be able to tell when I found my pearl.

And the feeling I had with Jennie transcends everything. It feels like all the storms and hurricanes inside me have quieted. It's like if I don't have her by my side, everything goes to hell.

With her....it feels like heaven. When I kissed her everything in my turmoiled heart stopped. I could feel myself get pulled into a trance almost. My mind was blank for everything except her.

Jennie is my pearl.

And I have to make her see that she's the one for me.

Present day—Jennie's POV

"Are you buying that?"

I turn my head and see a man reaching out towards the banana bread mix I'm holding.

I look back at it and check the price, widen my eyes and practically shove it into his hands.

He laughs and nods. "Yeah it's expensive."

I give a polite smile and nod. I take my cart and turn it around and Mi-Hae, who is sitting in the cart, says, "Can we get cake?"

I shake my head. "We already have cookies at home."

"But Mommy—"

"No."

"Mommy—"

"No."

"But—"

"No."

She pouts and sits back into the cart.

"Hey!"

I turn around and the guy is running back up to me.

"The clerk told me that the price is marked wrong. It's actually much lower. Do you still want it?"

I turn to him. "How much is it?"

"5 dollars."

I laugh. "Yeah...no thank you. Banana bread MIX should at least be 2, if not, at most 3 dollars."

He shakes his head and places it my cart.

It makes me slightly annoyed and he says, "I'll pay it for you."

It washes away at his kindness. "Oh! It's not that! I just like to keep a strict spending limit on non-necessities."

He squints slightly in confusion and I get the same reaction from people for being responsible.
