Chapter 43

Tessa

A few hours later...

"Hi, babe!" He walks in our bedroom and he talks a little bit too loud.

"Shhh. She just felt asleep."

"Shit, I'm sorry." He whispers. "I didn't see her on our bed." He leans on and he pecks my lips. "I missed you today."

"We missed you too. Why you left without waking me up?"

"I let you sleep. You woke up with her and you deserved the rest."

"Thank you." He kisses me again.

"How was today?"

"Good. Trish helped me a lot. She cleaned the apartment and she stayed with Emery while I took a long shower. She's a blessing for us."

"I know."

"I'm going to take a shower."

"Alright. After that, I want to talk with you about something."

"Is it bad?"

"No."

"Okay."

He kisses me again, then he goes to take a shower. A few minutes later, he's back. He gently takes Emery from our bed and he moves her to her crib, then he sits on the bed next to me.

"So? What do you want to talk about?"

"Your mother wants to help us with Emery and she decided to move here for a few months. And I think..." He interrupts me.

"No, we can do this alone."

"Hardin..."

"Yes?"

"You started work and I'm alone with the baby, especially now, when you're still doing touches at your firm. Having Trish here for a while, it's perfect. She's going to rent an apartment and she will come to help me. It's not that easy to raise a baby alone."

"You are not alone."

"Oh, really?" I say ironically. "It's 8pm and you just come home from work."

"This is just now, Tess. After I will start working seriously, I will come home early."

"As I know you, you won't, so don't come with these excuses. And anyway, you should be here in the first months, I need you. We need to raise our baby together."

"But I don't come with excuses. But I'm busy and I really want to do this in a good way. I thought you will understand me when I told you about my business."

"I understand you, Hardin. But I can't understand why you can't be okay with Trish moving here."

"Can we talk about it tomorrow? It's weekend and I'm free."

"Okay, how you wish." I turn my back to him. He has no idea how hard is to take care of a newborn. I'm not saying that he didn't help in the first two weeks, but since he started work, he's really busy with work. I know this business is important, but I think our newborn baby is more important than this.

"Tess..."

"Let's talk tomorrow. I'm tired and I want to get a few hours of sleep before she wakes up. Good night, Hardin."

A few hours later...

It's almost 4am and I just fed Emery, but she doesn't go to sleep. It was the second feed of the night. Hardin is not in bed and I suppose he's in the bathroom. As she doesn't want to go to sleep, I get up from bed and I go in the living room. I put Emery in her swing and I sit on the couch, looking at her.
