The very faint sunlight shone from the burrow entrance, hiting Blanca's eyes, causing her to stir. She fluttered, her eyes opened, taking a moment to take in her surprise. She was in what appeared to be a burrow of some kind. Blanca sighed.
Blanca: So, it wasn't a dream, huh?
It was then that all of yesterday's memories came back to her. From being thrown out from her owners cars, to being lost in the Mojave Desert, to nearly escaping being eaten by a hawk, to being separated from her chameleon roommate, and the meeting with the grim reaper that was Jake. The ball python shuttered, remembering how he had her at gun point, which turned into what she thought was flirting or teasing. She's still not sure. Actually, come to think of it, she never told him her name. Though, she didn't think he would care now since she would be leaving. Speaking of Jake, Blanca looked around the burrow. It was empty. There is no sign of the rattlesnake anywhere.
Blanca: Jake?
Maybe he left to find breakfast. Either way, she promised him she would leave once the hawk was gone. She cautiously slithered out of the burrow, looking up at the sky for any sign of that damned bird. She sighed. Nowhere in sight. Still, she needed to be careful, just in case. Blanca fully slithered out of the burrow and instantly regretted it when she felt the scorching sun shine on her. It was then that Blanca realized that she needed something to drink and something to eat soon. The problem with getting something to eat was the fact that she was a pet snake, not a wild one, so she didn't know how to hunt. In fact, the closest thing to hunting she's ever done was that one time a rat got in her owners house, and she had to catch it. She did, eventually, but she mostly sumed it up to pure luck. Anyway, she can worry about food later, right now, she is in need of water. Blanca remembered Jake mentioning a watering hole nearby, just north from here. Without hesitation, she made her towards the watering hole. Unknown to her, a winged shadow appeared over her.
LATER...
How long has it been? Minutes? Hours? Blanca couldn't tell anymore. She was still slithering through the desert, just to look for some god damn water. She was starting to wonder if Jake was lying about there being a watering hole.
Blanca: *Frustrated* Of course he lied! Who just gives a stranger directions to a watering hole that probably doesn't exist?
Just as she said that, she spotted something up ahead. She squinted her eyes to get a better view. Just a couple of feet away from her was a watering hole. Granted, it was smaller than she imagined, quite small, but it was still a watering hole, nonetheless.
Blanca: Huh, I guess he was telling the truth.
Without hesitation, she slithered her way over. Once she reached the surface of the water, Scarlett lowered her head and began sipping the water. Oh, it felt like heaven. Finally, being able to have a nice, refreshing drink after traveling in the inferno that was the desert.
Blanca: *Sighs in contempt* I feel so much better.
After refreshing her throat, she took a glance at herself in the reflective liquid. Honestly, she looked awful. The crooks of her scales were covered in sand and dirt. Well, she can't complain, considering she had been traveling the desert all day yesterday, and most of today. Besides that, when she saw her reflection, she couldn't help but frown. All she saw was a big, scaly, ugly snake. One that a normal person would steer clear from at the drop of a hat. Blanca had worked so hard trying to seem unthreatening, constantly holding back the urge to say something mean and even trying to look harmless. Even though her species of snake were docile most of the time, that didn't mean they couldn't act aggressive. Blanca has had to suppress these urges for years, just so she can be accepted. It was honestly hard sometimes. Blanca snapped out of these thoughts when she gazed back into the water, seeing her dirty scales.
