"Welcome to this world, outsider."
"I do feel very welcomed. Thank you." Lanz said in a satirical manner while looking at his wrists that's tied together by the handcuffs.
"I never felt animosity nor malicious intent from him. Even now, he's grinning. I hope I read the room right and my retort won't anger him.
"He's just staring at me. This place is filled with blue mist from the walls to the ceiling and floor. He can probably kill me if he wants to. I shouldn't have said anything. I'm so dead right now. Goodbye, second life that didn't even last a day, probably...."
"Heh..." The handsome man snickered after a few seconds of him silently staring at Lanz who let out a sigh of relief to the man's reaction.
"Is he laughing? It seems like he isn't really that terrif-"
"Putting up a brave front, are we? I can sense the fluctuations in your breathing and your heartbeat."
The man said in a slightly threatening manner that left Lanz on cold sweat as Lanz gulped.
"Here I thought I got away with it. Yup, I'm dead.
"Let's first try to stabilise our breathing and calm down. This guy hasn't done anything yet to hurt me so he's probably just testing me. Or perhaps I'm just that easy of a target to him that my life is actually in his hands right now and he's just toying with me."
Lanz gained a little bit more of his composure, replicating his clear-headedness in his everyday life when he uses his fabricated smile to talk with anyone.
"It seems like you're quick to adapt."
The man who has a sharp and cold gaze said as he snapped his right fingers. Along with the snapping sound, the handcuffs that were tying Lanz's wrists together fell to the ground and made clinking sounds.
Lanz picked up the handcuffs and placed it on the table in front of him while he inspected his wrists that was marked with a tint of red. The handcuffs weren't too tight but as he was constantly being dragged by it, the handcuffs left a mark on him.
"I found you in the gate of Goliath. That place is heavily monitored, so everyone in the council is already aware of your existence.
"I was the only one who dared to initiate contact with you. I'm gonna place you under my custody so you can be at ease. I'm a very trustworthy person...
The man leaned forward, his tone slowly shifted, his voice becoming clearer. In the silent room filled with mist, the man spoke with a slight grin.
"And I'm the strongest."
As the man said with full confidence, Lanz was left wondering how he should reply.
"Gate of Goliath... Council... Custody?
"I got caught up in a very troublesome matter. The gate of Goliath is a heavily guarded place, and the council is the one monitoring it. If my line of thought is correct, then my sudden appearance is an abnormality that caught their attention.
"Council? Are they filled with people who's as strong and as troublesome as this guy? If he can say that he's the strongest, then it wouldn't be a bad idea to be under his custody.
"As an abnormality, they are indeed wary of me. If he's the only one who dared approach me, then perhaps he knows something that the entire council doesn't. Or he's just that confident in being the strongest. Either way, he has something that others don't.
"All I can do right now is grasp at straws. I might not even have a say in this matter."
"It doesn't really feel like I have any other choice."
