Dear dad
You inspire me to be nothing like you
Thank you for the calls
Oh wait
I appreciate the memories
The ones you left gnawing at my soul
The words you left in my ears
Dear dad
Thank you for the flashbacks and the panic attacks
The family I could never meet
The danger you put us in
Dad?
It's the drugs, isn't it?
The alcohol?
They took you, and they seem to be keeping you
Dad?
Why would you hurt a little kid
Why would you hurt my mom
Why would you let me hear that
Dad?
Please
It breaks me to see little girls with their fathers
That was supposed to be us
You were supposed to break the cycle
Now I'm stuck in it
Thank you, dad
