"Uh, is it ok if you do me a favour? I really need a write a letter, but... you know, I'm a flaming fireball of destruction. And, like, we're friends now so I thought I'd ask you..."
"Sure, don't worry about it," Asteria smiled.
Pulling a scroll and a bottle of ink out of one of the many pouches around her leg, she smoothed her writing surface out and readied her talons. Yes, she did keep blank scrolls and ink on her at all times, and no, that is not weird at all. Asta personally believed that it was weird not to, because what would you do at times like these? Besides, her brain worked in weird ways, usually sparking inspiration from the most random things. She'd learned to just carry her writing tools wherever she went.
"Woah-kay, uh, I didn't expect to be doing it right now, but why not?" Pyrite babbled, seemingly shocked that Asteria was already prepared. Asta giggled.
"So, who am I writing this to?" she asked, and Pyrite blushed.
"There's this guy back at home... his name's Kindle. But I don't know whether I should put 'Dear Kindle' or not," she said nervously.
"Let's do it! The worst he can say is no," Asta said encouragingly, before scrawling Dear Kindle onto the scroll in her thin, curly handwriting. "What else do you want to say?"
Pyrite shrugged, causing a rush of steam to ascend into the sky above. "I don't know," she said truthfully.
Asteria smiled. "How about I put something like, 'Dear Kindle, this is Pyrite, Queen Ruby's daughter. I was just writing to ask you how you've been, and about how things are going back in the SkyWing Kingdom. I hope you're doing alright. Here at Jade Mountain is pretty good.' That should be a decent start to a letter!" she offered, glancing over at Pyrite to find her reaction.
Thankfully, Pyrite looked happy. She nodded, signalling that it was an acceptable start. Scribbling the message onto the scroll, Asteria listened as Pyrite suggested more.
Eventually, when the princess was happy with the content of the letter, they reached the ending.
"Should we put 'love from Pyrite'? Or should we just leave it?" Pyrite said, fiddling with her talons anxiously.
"Let's do 'love'. Be confident!" Asteria grinned, and wrote it down. She carefully wiped her talons clean before examining the letter. Pyrite shuffled her talons.
"How is it?" she asked, her bright blue eyes staring anxiously into Asta's.
"It's perfect."
Pyrite exhaled a long sigh of relief, and coils of smoke swirled into the sky. The stars shone brightly above them, and Asteria was suddenly aware of the time.
With a gasp, she cried, "By the moons, the night snuck up on us. I better hurry back before my clawmates think that I really am a crazy pycho who spazzes out!"
"Sorry, what?" Pyrite asked, but Asta shook her head.
"Long story, I'll tell you some other time. See you tomorrow!" she said, and dashed away in a matter that reminded her strongly of Splash.
The hallways were dark and empty, as most students had already returned to the comfort of their sleeping caves. Asteria kept her head down as she hurried through, and didn't notice the figure in front of her until she crashed right into him.
Suddeny her face was full of dark blue scales. Embarrassed, she stepped back, and looked up to see a tall NightWing looking back down at her with concern.
"Woah there, are you alright?" he asked, his voice smooth like honey.
"I, uh- yeah, I am." Asteria managed to respond. "So sorry for that, uh, I wasn't paying attention..."
The NightWing laughed, startling her. "No need to apologise, accidents happen. Plus, now I have an excellent story to tell tomorrow!" he said with a toothy grin. "I'm Deathflight, by the way. It's a pleasure to meet you..?"
"Asteria," she said, "I'm Asta. It's lovely to meet you too, Deathflight."
Deathflight grinned again. "Well, I've got places to be. Maybe I'll see you tomorrow?"
Asteria smiled. "Perhaps so."
Returning on her way, she entered the Onyx winglet's cave. The only dragon that Asteria could see was the MudWing of the winglet, Fenn.
"Ah, there you are. The others have already gone to sleep. We're clawmates, that cave over there," he informed her, pointing his claw to one of the caves that was connected to the main area.
Asteria suddenly realised how drowsy she felt. It was becoming a great effort simply to keep her eyes open. Gratefully, she followed Fenn into the sleeping cave, and collapsed into corner. She spent the night dreaming of the three little NightWing dragonets.

Dear Kindle,
This is Queen Ruby's daughter, Pyrite.
I was just writing to ask you how you've been, and about how things are going back in the SkyWing Kingdom. I hope you're doing alright! Here at Jade Mountain is pretty good.
I've met a bunch of pretty cool dragons. My clawmates are really nice! I'm sure you'd love it if you were here.
I made a new friend, a NightWing. She's helping me write this and post this to you, so I don't burn the scroll or accidentally set the school on fire.
Say hello to mother for me. I really miss you, and I wish you were here.
Love, Pyrite ♥︎
