[backstory]

Taylor had come to pick you up from a massive high school party one of the popular kids you were (kinda) friends with had invited you to...

I sat in the passenger seat of the black BMW four by four, driving speedily down the freeway. My surroundings rushed past me in a blur from outside the window. My gaze drifted over to the dashboard with its blue lining around the buttons by the screen. In the corner it showed the time, 22:13, particularly late considering the events of today.
Taylor placed her left hand gently on my thigh, her other hand on the wheel.

"are you alright, y/n?" Taylor said softly, with a voice like silk. The sound of her voice was like a warm safety blanket.

"of course...Why wouldn't I be?" I responded a little to rapidly.
She raised an eyebrow skeptically, before focusing her energy temporarily back on the road. Streetlights illuminated the gleaming street, wet with last night's rain.

"y/n, you know you can talk to me, right?" Taylor said in a low voice, turning to look at me with a soft gaze for a moment, before looking back at the road. The car bumped and jerked a little beneath the uneven road as Taylor turns a corner. She grips the steering wheel tightly, then looks back over to her daughter who hasn't said much the entire car ride.

Taylor pulls over and stops the car, the engine vibrating softly. "y/n, baby?" She examined my face with a sullen expression, placing a hand on my cheek. "is everything okay, angel?"

I nod softly and as convincingly as I possibly could, but there was a sinking feeling in my stomach that I couldn't ignore. I couldn't meet her gaze.

"y/n/n, please." Taylor stroked my hair and planted a kiss on my forehead. "please, angel?"
I glanced out of the window, seeing the high-street shops with their unique bright glows coming from their signs. A tear rolled down my cheek, which I went to wipe away but Taylor's hand met mine.
"shh," she whispered gently, holding you as close as she could from the driver's seat, holding your hand, lovingly. "If their's anything I can do to help, you let me know, baby," Taylor kissed my knuckles, gingerly. "okay, y/n/n?"

I nod, silently, and first time all night, I met her gaze. "Mom, my friends keep lying to me," I sigh, swallowing hard. "They're just so toxic... I can't deal with them anymore."
Taylor looked at me with a soft gaze and a warm glow in her electric blue eyes. As she reached for both my hands she reassured me in a low voice.

"Honey, I know those girls are your friends and you want to forgive them. But I want you to have people who bring the best out of you and make you feel confident in yourself."
I glanced up at her, confiding in her with all my heart, believing every word.

"I love you, mom," I whispered, softly. She kissed my cheek softly.
"I love you, y/n." Taylor replied with a sympathetic, warm smile, keeping my hand interlocked between her fingers for the rest of the car ride.
The car rumbled a little as she restarted the engine and she began driving down the road. It were as if the soft yellow glow of street lamps pointed in an arrowhead, leading us home.
