Mario awoke to the angry pounding on his and Luigi's bedroom door gasping he ran to the bedroom closet gently lying Luigi on the floor he gently closed the bedroom closet before he jumped onto his and Luigi's bed pretending to sleep

He heard the door click before it was thrown open no doubt denting the wall as the bedroom door slammed against the wall

WHERE IS YOUR BROTHER!? Mario and LUIGI'S's adoptive father yelled I don't know Mario answered TELL ME WHERE HE IS!
I don't know Mario said again STOP LYING TO ME NOW WHERE IS YOUR BROTHER!?

From inside the closet Mario could tell Luigi was awake and seconds before having another panic attack soon Luigi wouldn't be able to breathe

Would you calm down Mario said

WHERE IS YOUR BROTHER!? Mario's foster father yelled of course after their real parents died Mario and Luigi were sent to live with very abusive people. Luigi visibly gasped in the closet when he heard the slap

Mario blinked his eyes a few times but still he stared defiantly into his father's angry eyes which looked almost black.

Another slap

Luigi counted 18 slaps in total he closed his eyes trying to breathe like Mario had taught him

WHERE IS YOUR BROTHER I'M NOT GOING TO ASK YOU AGAIN. Mario snarled before saying you just did. Mario's words earned him three more slaps

Had enough? Mario's father asked

Not...even...close Mario replied.

WHERE IS YOUR BROTHER DON'T MAKE ME ASK AGAIN but still Mario stayed silent

The Mario Bros father grabbed Mario's arm breaking it in two different places. Luigi could definitely hear something snap which was followed by a scream
Mario knew Luigi was going to black out

Fine I'll tell you Mario cried as he was shoved backwards holding his broken arm close to his chest

YOU BETTER NOT BE LYING TO ME The Mario Bros father seethed in anger grabbing Mario's leg breaking it like his arm

I thought he would.... be safer outside in the shed

Safer from what? Their foster father asked. You and mom was Mario's only answer Mario watched as his foster father stormed out of the room slamming the door shut behind him and Luigi ran to his brother catching him as he fell backwards.

I'm fine Lu Mario lied you're not fine Luigi snapped the younger Mario Bro could tell black was beginning to form in his brothers eyes you can't take any more just tell Dad I'm here and he'll stop.

I'm not going to see you hurt Mario replied

Luigi listen to me whatever happens to me you must stay hidden until I say that you can come out okay promise me you'll do that for me Lu. But Mario.... Luigi started. Promise me you'll stay under the bed until the coast is clear Promise me you'll stay under the bed until either I give you the sign or dad's out of the room.

I don't want to see you hurt I never want to see you hurt so Promise me you'll stay hidden until it's safe

Why can't I be brave like you Mario? Luigi asked as the elder Mario brother pushed him under the bed seconds before the door was thrown open

Did I say Lu is in the shed? I meant to say he's in the closet under the sink Mario answered.
