Jann could feel his patience wearing thin as Coby and his friend Percy continued to be loud and disruptive in the backseat of the car.

"Oh, c'mon!" Percy groaned, leaning forward in an attempt to grab the wheel. "You drive slower than my grandmother."

Jann firmly pushed him away, determined not to let Percy's drunken antics get to him.

"Bruv," He warned with a stern look, gripping the steering wheel with both hands as he shot daggers over his shoulder.

"Yeah well," Jann continued, his voice now steady and composed, "There's a reason that I'm driving. I'm the sober one. Chill."

He took a moment to steal a glance at the girl in the passenger seat, hoping that the commotion wasn't bothering her too much. Her eyes were closed and her head was resting on her forearm, which was propped up against the car door. She wasn't asleep, just resting.

"Let's see if these guys got beer for me!" Percy suddenly exclaimed, leaning over and motioning for Coby to roll down his window.

Another car pulled up alongside them, carrying a few more people who had also left the party at the same time.

"Hey! Hey, hey!" Percy shouted with a laugh. "Have got any more beers then?"

Jann tried his best to stay focused on the road ahead, determined not to get distracted. A guy from the adjacent car rolled down his window, holding out a beer with a grin. "Are you still thirsty, mate?"

Percy laughed uncontrollably as he leaned out of the window to grab the offered beer. However, his amusement was short-lived as the car scraped against Jann's with a harsh thud, causing his head to snap around. The sudden noise startled Madelyn, making her jump, a frightened expression evident on her face.

Out of nowhere, blue lights and blaring sirens appeared behind them.

"You've got to be kidding me," Jann exclaimed, his annoyance finally getting the better of him. He cursed under his breath before turning to Madelyn, glancing at her reassuringly, "It's okay."

She attempted to check the passenger-side mirror, only to realize it had been knocked off clean due to the collision with the other car. It didn't take long for Jann to also take notice of this, and shook his head in frustration.

"Sit down, stop!" He snapped as his grip on the steering wheel tightened.

The whole ordeal had Coby on edge, his worry about the potential consequences growing by the second. He ran his hands over his face, his distress evident. "Oh, I'm done. Like, finished," Coby exclaimed. "The uni captain will pull my scholarship."

Jann kept glancing in the refection of the driver's side mirror at the police car behind them, watching it get closer as he searched for a suitable place to pull over. "Yo, shut up," He insisted firmly. He flicked on his indicator and veered the car over to the left.

"All right, belts on. Get your belt on," He instructed Coby and Percy, directing a sympathetic glance towards Madelyn, who sat there with wide eyes and not uttering a word.

The car filled with the sound of Coby muttering to himself, the tension inside the car slowly growing.

"My football career is over," Coby sighed, his words filled with regret.
