Recap

Eliza Alexander had found his journal.

Alex had been dreading this moment ever since he found himself saving that little girl from certain death on the road a few days ago. He had been jotting down his intrusive thoughts of death ever since, a way of trying to make sense of the fear and confusion he had felt and still felt.

Though he had tried to hide them, Eliza had found his journal and read the words. Now, she had invited Laurens Burr, Lafayette, and Mulligan, Alex's closest friends, to come and talk to him.

They were gathered around the living room, the air tense and charged with emotion as Eliza began to speak.

"Alex, I'm sure you can understand why I'm so worried," she said in a concerned voice. "Your journal entries have been concerning to say the least. I want to make sure you're alright."

Alex sighed heavily and looked away. He knew that his friends were here to try to convince him to open up, but he couldn't bring himself to do it.

"I'm fine," he said gruffly. "You don't need to worry."

"Alex, you're obviously not alright," Lafayette interjected. "Why don't you open up and tell us what's going on?"

Alex felt his cheeks flush with anger. He was struggling with his emotions, and being confronted by his friends was not helping.

"I don't understand why you're making such a big deal about this," he said in a strained voice. "It's not like I'm having suicidal thoughts or anything."

"That's not the point," Mulligan said firmly. "We just want to make sure you're okay. We care about you, Alex."

Alex closed his eyes and took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. His friends meant well, but he still felt like they were pushing him too hard.

"When will you stop suggesting that I hate life?" he finally said. "I just want to be left alone."

The room fell silent as Alex's friends exchanged glances. Finally, Laurens spoke up.

"Alex, we're not suggesting anything," he said in a gentle voice. "We just want to help you if you need it. Nobody can make you talk if you don't want to, but we are here for you if you do decide to open up."

Alex sighed. He knew that his friends were right, but he still couldn't bring himself to speak. He felt too exposed, too vulnerable. He wanted to keep his thoughts and feelings hidden, but he also knew that it was impossible.

Finally, he opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out. He felt like his throat had been sealed shut. He looked away, feeling tears prickling at the corners of his eyes.

Without another word, he stood up and walked out of the room, feeling the weight of his friends' stares on his back. He wanted nothing more than to be alone right now.

Alex wandered aimlessly around the city, trying to clear his mind. He found himself staring at the city skyline, taking in the twinkling lights and the hum of traffic below. He felt small and insignificant in the vastness of the city, but strangely comforted by it at the same time.

He didn't know how long he stood there, lost in thought, until he felt a hand on his shoulder. He turned to see Eliza standing behind him, a look of concern etched on her face.

"Alex, please, talk to me," she said softly.

Alex hesitated for a moment before finally giving in. He poured his heart out to her, telling her everything that he had been feeling since that day on the road. He spoke of his fears, his doubts, his insecurities, and the overwhelming sense of sadness that threatened to consume him.

Eliza listened patiently, offering words of comfort and encouragement. She reminded him that he was not alone, and that his friends were always by his side.
