Memories

Knight and Maya had been childhood friends,that's how they had began.
Knight met Kevin when he was trying to run away from the cops for hacking into a company's account.
  Then he met Steve, he has the best skill in the gang after Knight. Then he met Ben.
       He met Yvonne oddly.
  He was hacking the CIA. They couldn't track or beat him. His program was moving smoothly till he realized he wasn't the only one hacking the CIA, another person was. He felt the person had great skill and courage for deciding to hack the CIA. But the CIA were on the person's tail, they were tracking the person. He decided to help and misled their trail.
     The person had turned out to be Yvonne.
    He had been the same back then. The same rude, short tempered dude. Both of them started hanging out. Yvonne joined the gang much to Maya's annoyance. Knight had said he didn't want another female colleague apart from Maya. What made him change his mind?
  Yvonne had been innocent looking but strong willed and fierce. She was sassy too and Knight hated it. They both sparred most of the time. To others, Yvonne was a good thing as Knight had started smiling but to Maya, she was snatching her crush and childhood friend.
    Knight rarely laughed but that day, they had him laugh heartily and all because he was with Yvonne.
    " Stay away from Knight." Maya had warned Yvonne but she just walked out on her.
   There was this top secret file no one had opened, not even Maya. Knight had put a restriction on it.
But Yvonne had gone ahead to open and read it. It was the file containing a programme Knight was initiating. It would be a programme that would uncode any code, retreat a hack and trace the hacker and could permanently destroy a server. It hadn't had a name and noone knew about it.
     Knight had been really furious that day but he had later calmed down, Yvonne had calmed him. Then he revealed to the gang, his dream project which hadn't even began quarter. He had actually wanted to initiate it alone but Yvonne changed everything.
  They initiated the programme together and named it ' D' destroya'.
    " The name sucks!" Yvonne had protested.
" Anything better?" Steve had asked. She thought for a while,
  " What about programme DS_troy ? Destroy, DS_troy,huh?"
   They accepted the idea. It was a break through for them.
Then something happened the evening of the of the invention of programme DS_troy. Maya was mad at Knight. She was yelling at him, telling him he was breaking her heart by letting Yvonne take her place. Then,
  " Did you think I loved you, Maya?" He had said
           " What?"
" You're my childhood friend and it's always been like that. Nothing more, nothing less."
        She had began sobbing.
  " But I like you a lot Knight."
" Then that's you not me. I've never felt like that about you, Maya."
       " Then Yvonne?"
     " What about Yvonne?"
       " Do you like her?"
          He was silent
" Answer me , Knight!" She screamed
" Yes!" He said plainly, rawly and emotionlessly." I like Yvonne."
        She sobbed harder
  " I knew it!" She clutched his collar. " What about that night? That night at the hotel? Our first date?"
" I was carried away, Maya. We were both drunk, remember?"
     " It still makes a difference!"
" No it doesn't! It was all a charade to mislead my company's board crew. Don't you get it?"
   " Knight please. What's in Yvonne and not in me?"
   " Don't involve her in this!"
  " Why? You love her that much?"
" Yes, I love her! I love Yvonne." He sounded more like he realized he loved her and was convincing himself of it.
After that, things changed. Knight really realized he liked Yvonne, a lot. He became more fond of her and sometimes he'd stare vacantly at her. She too was convinced she was having feelings for Knight.
After much persuasion from Kevin, he asked her out to dinner. It was over dinner he really asked her out.
  " I like this place. They're classy." She had commented. She let her red hair fall to her back.
  " I knew you'd like it." He said
" But it's empty."
" I reserved the place for us ."
          " Us? Why?"
He just smiled. Music began in the background.
" Will you take this dance with me? He offered and she took his hand. He held her waist while she wrapped her arms around his neck.
" So?" She said after a while of awkward silence.
      " So." He replied
        She blushed and gazed down. She had butterflies in her tummy and they could probably escape soon.
" Hey!" He called and she looked up to him, locking eyes.
He stopped dancing and tightened his grip on her waist. They just starred at each other, vacantly. Then he made a brief brush with his lips against hers. She was a bit gobsmacked but it was worth it.
   When they faced each other, she was red.
" What was that for?" She whispered.
" I love you, Yvonne." He said. She knew so but she wasn't expecting it do sudden.
            " Knight?"
" I said I love you..." She shut him up with another slow, intriguing kiss. She pulled away but he didn't, he fed on her lips, kissing them with a demand and hunger that was suddenly building.
      " I love you too, Knight." She whispered.
They were madly in love and remained inseparable. The once rude,short tempered Knight, was now lively and full of smiles until that day...
  " Someone's hacking us!" Steve announced and everyone turned to stare at the screen.
" Find out how." Knight said.
Then after few minutes of keyboarding,
      " Big brodas." Steve replied
  " Damn those freaks!" Kevin cussed.
" Let's return the favor." Maya said and began operating on a system. She was tryna hack the ' big brodas', another set of tech freaks and their worst rival.
     " Wait!" Yvonne had said." How about we startle them?"
              " How?"
      " Programme DS_troy."
  They liked the idea. They would initiate a programme with the DS_troy that would permanently destroy big brodas' main server for good. It was the first time they were using their invention.
  " Initiating operation DS_troy 001" Steve announced. He just gave the DS_troy a new name.
" Operation DS_troy 001." Yvonne repeated. She liked it.
  " Done! Let's see how our friends react."
The programme took a few minutes and then, BOOM! Bye bye big brodas.
They hosted a party that evening to celebrate their victory. But it was the last day they celebrated Merrily together. The next day, the worst had happened.
  They were in a van going through the bridge when suddenly another van interrupted them causing them to brake forcefully.
" Hey! Weirdo, get off the road!" Ben, the driver had screamed.
The owners of the van turned out to be the big brodas. They were armed and furious.
  " You crashed our serverssssss." The leader, Dion had said. He wasn't any older than Knight. His crew were all seven male.
  " So? " Knight blurted" you were intruding our privacy."
  " What new programme was that, Knight? It couldn't even be interrupted." Dion continued.
" You suppose me to tell you that?" Knight snickered.
" No. I expect her to do it."
          Yvonne?
" What'd make you think she would?"
   " Cause I said so. Now, Yvonne, c'mon tell me."
        How'd Dion know her name?
Yvonne gazed down. She looked like a lost puppy.
       " Yvonne!" Dion called.
  " Do you know him?" Knight asked.
  " Knight lemmie explain..." She began.
        "Explain what?" He was confused
  " Explain how your girlfriend is my accomplice." Dion blurted.
Yvonne shut her. Why had he said it so rawly. Tears rolled down her cheeks.
           " What?"
   " Took you by surprise, huh?" Dion said sarcastic.
         " Yvonne?" Knight called
  " Knight, it's not what you think..." She paused " I really love you, Knight..."
" Oh quit your lovey dovey tales! Lemmie explain plainly, Yvonne Manchester is the eighth member of the big brodas."
Yvonne sobbed. She never wanted any of this to happen like this. She could feel Knight's gaze on her but she dared not look.
   " Your love, her love, was all a charade, fake! She was just my little puppet forwarded to check on you guys. And she did a good job. She brutal Knight finally softened huh?"
     The big brodas laughed. Knight's fists were clenched and the rest if the gang were dumbfounded.
      " Knight please.." she began
  " Shut up!" He barked. Fury was written all over him " you betrayed me." He looked at her .
   " I'm sorry." She muttered
" Sorry? After what you did? You toyed with me and my emotions!"
" I swear I love you Knight"
He shut his eyes. He couldn't bear to see her or hear her voice. His throat was getting dry, his eyes were about to rain,his chest hurt. He clenched his fists so hard. He wanted to punch himself hard for falling for Yvonne in the first place.
" If you guys are done, can I have my eighth member back?" Dion said" and Yvonne come along with the destroy programme whatever."
She put her hand in her pocket and brought out the flashdrive containing the DS_troy programme.
           How could she?
Knight's eyes remained shut. He was too hurt. A line of tears rolled down his shut eyes.
   " How dare you!" Steve screamed. " That's our half a year commitment you're giving away! We spent half a year initiating the goddamn programme and you dare to stab us in the back?"
   " I'm sorry." She muttered. Steve screamed again, ruffling his hair. What would sorry do at this moment? She starred at the drive in her hand then at Knight.
" C'mon Yvonne!" Dion called.
  " Knight." She slipped the drive into his fists. He opened his eyes furiously, they were red. He grabbed the drive and tossed it into the sea.
" To hell with you and the damn programme.
     " Knight!" Dion screamed. Then pulled out a pistol and had it to Knight. " You just destroyed that drive, you know."
Knight's gaze didn't leave Yvonne. He was trying to understand when things got so bad and how. Dion's pistol didn't frighten him. Then he grabbed Yvonne's wrist and pushed her to Dion.
" Keep your eighth member or I might end up boring a hole a her."
Dion screamed. He was getting fed up.
    " Go get me that flash or she gets it." He shifted the pistol to Yvonne.
  " Dion what ya doing?" She stuttered
    " Get me the flash!"
       " Don't Knight!" Yvonne yelled. There were only two proofs o the DS_troy 001; her flash, the one in the sea and Knight's own.
    " Here." He brought out his and tossed it to a big broda.
    " No!"
       " Now let her go!"
He did then pushed her to the ground." Get lost. We big brodas don't need you." They laughed and got into their van.
        Yvonne was crying.
" Shut up." Knight barked. He starred at her with somewhat disgust and hatred. His heart hurt starring at her.
" I'm sorry. Please forgive me guys. I didn't mean to..."
     "  Shut up!" Steve. " Why did you hand them the drive. You could've let them kill her. She betrayed us, she hurt you."
    " I didn't." He replied and brought out the real flash from his pocket.
   " Then what did you give them?"
He brought out another stuff. It was like a button on a tiny board. He starred after the big brodas van, disappearing down the road. He hit the button and the van exploded. It was a flashdrive bomb.
   Then he starred at Yvonne, pulled out a pistol and had it to her. He was back to his ruthless self. Yvonne's betrayal had hardened him again and worse.
      " You betrayed me." He said
          " I'm sorry." She replied
  " You hurt me!"

  " I'm sorry.
    " You fooled me!"

                                         " I'm... sorry." 
                                    He set the pistol.
                        " Just kill me." She sobbed.
She had hurt him and deserved every punishment.
         He set the pistol, shut his eyes, and fired, THRICE.

          She opened her eyes. He hadn't shot her! He had fired the air.
   " Get the fucking hell outta ma life and the day I set my eyes on you again, might really be your last."
        " I said get out!!!"
