The Letter

Adrian

After the dance, Stella and I went back upstairs to my room.

I couldn't stop thinking about the letter I got yesterday. I was still doubting if I should give it to her or not.

Honestly, I never thought that after all these years, after all of the moments I spent with her, I never thought that I would feel so unacceptable of letting her go.

I never thought she'd steal my heart in a way no one has before.

I guess that is one of the reasons why my mind is filled with doubts right now.

As soon as we got to my room, Stella and I sat across the chimney as I told her stories about me that happened centuries ago.

She really seemed to enjoy it because I got a giggle out of her in certain parts of it.

And by that point, she was halfway out the window, and I was getting dressed as fast as I could. I said as I came to the conclusion of my storytelling.

Stella laughed a bit after I finished. Thank you for listening to my old stories.

There are a few things that a vampire fears, but to me, personally, forgetting all the adventures I've had and the lessons I've learned is certainly one of them.

Helps a lot to share them out loud with somebody. I told her.

Yeah, that makes sense. Stella replied as she nodded.

It's been wonderful to have a lover again. I admitted.

Stella looked over at me after I said that.

I've loved all of my dear ones for quite a long time, but there are things that I've always been afraid to share with them. Being more vulnerable with you.

You've certainly made that clear that that's something I need in my life. I said as my mind went pensive all of a sudden.

Hey, you ok? Stella asked worriedly as soon as she noticed my reaction.

What's wrong? She asked.

Oh, nothing, just thinking about work. I told her.

Nothing that you need to worry about. I reassured her.

Hey, you said you wanted to talk to me. Something about a trip? Hollen asked, raising an eyebrow.

Oh, that. I said as I began to remember.

We do need to talk about that little business trip we have coming up.

Am I going to be able to go with you? Stella asked curiously.

I still have my doubts about bringing you along, I'm afraid. I admitted.

Right… you have kept me here in order to be safe.

You take that job very seriously, and I know that. Stella said as she looked away from me.

Well, it is all good for you to say that. I told her.

And why is that? Stella asked.

Do you remember what happened the last time you met one of my clients?

Stella nodded in response.

We weren't even officially together then, now we are.

Which makes you an even bigger target. I told her.

Even if we don't have an issue with this client, there are plenty of people who might target me through you.

Whether because I'm a vampire or because I'm wealthy or because I funded a rebellion.
