lorelei knew that in this new world, she had to be strong. her father wasn't, and her mother was dead. it was up to her, to be the one to keep the stokes family alive.
it'd been a say or two since tyreese. they found a place, and buried him. she felt for sasha, but she wasn't too affected by the situation.
she didn't know him.
all the people they had lost, judith wouldn't remember them.
which hurt, because she learned that tyreese and beth were two of the biggest people in the baby's life.
at the prison, it was normally beth who cared for her.
after the prison attack, tyreese kept her safe.
currently, they were hunkered down in a barn that last standing dixon had found. they were on the road, found some jugs of water that were from 'a friend.' as badly as she wanted to drink it, she knew better.
then it started raining. then it started raining harder.
there was a small fire in the middle of the barn, drying everyone.
"this is kind of nice.." she muttered to carl, who sat beside her. judith was in her lap, head against her chest as she slept. it helped ease her feelings that carl trusted her so much with his baby sister.
"i agree.. a roof over our head is nice." he sighed, stretching his legs out in front of him, letting his wet hat sit on the ground beside him. "even if it is a stinky barn." he let out a dry laugh, gaze falling on his sleeping sister. "although the rain did feel kind of nice."
"yeah, i just wish i could take a shower, wash my hair." she let out a sigh, head falling back against the wall.
"that would be nice." carl agreed, and glanced around the fire. at the adults. "my dad needs to shave. he looks old."
that alone made lorelei giggle. her eyes found themselves trained on the leader, and she tried to imagine what he would look like without the scruff.

later into the night, everyone but daryl and lorelei was asleep. she just couldn't let herself. she was too busy thinking about her mom, and maggie, and whether or not they would ever find a haven. a home.loud banging on the door pulled the fourteen year old from her thoughts. daryl was the first one to jump up, dnaf slam himself against the doors. when the lightning flashed, she was able to see the small herd trying to get in the barn.
"carl," he reached over to tap him, "carl!" she shoved him a bit, watching as a few people awoke to go help.
carl woke up, and rubbed his eyes, before jumping to his feet. "just lay her down, they need our help!" he shouted over the thunder, offering his hand to lorelei once she lay his sister down.
the pair ran over, and lorelei slammed her back against the doors. her feet dug into the mud as she tried to kep upright. carl placed his hands beside her head, towering over her as they both pushed. small grunts could be heard, and with furrowed eyebrows, she looked up at him.
"you're doing good," carl grumbled out, giving her a small nod.
she returned it, and he closed his eyes, focusing his strength. lorelei's gaze didn't falter, instead- it dtay on the boy's face. she admired him, and his small freckles, the curve of his nose, the wrinkle of his eyes as he struggled.
carl grimes was beautiful.
she could only imagine what his mom looked like, because she could tell he looked nothing like his dad.
a loud burst of thunder boomed, followed by a loud crack, then a crash. one by one, the walkers heaxed in the area to investigate what the sound was. at the sudden release of strength against the door, lorelei started to slip. but before her butt hit the ground, carl caught her hands, and pulled her to her feet.
