Twenty years earlier.....
She woke up to the sounds of beeping machines, throbbing pain spreading all over her small body. Her throat so parched. Water. She slowly opened her eyes adjusting to the brightness of the room she's in.
"Oh thanks God you're awake! " A soft woman's voice spoke from her right side of the bed. "How are you feeling? Oh take a sip of this then I'll call the doctor. "
She saw a kind faced middle age woman when she turned her head offering her a glass of water.
She disorientedly looks around taking notice to the tubes and wires connected from her body to the machines.
"Hi sweetheart, I'm doctor Hayes, I'm so glad you're awake now. Let me check you first okay?" A smiling doctor came near her and check everything, asked some questions and told her about her situation.
"You are so strong for a seven years old darling, so I'll leave you now to have rest,everything will be fine."
She muttered thank you and watch the doctor and nurse leave.
The woman stayed the whole time and leave with the doctor.
She heard the door opened and closed softly.
" I'm Sophia Storm, I found you in the alley beaten and bleeding so much, I've never been so scared in my life until I saw you there barely breathing. I brought you here immediately. Who did this to you? I've never imagined what kind of monsters did this. You're so young.."
She close her eyes to stop the tears forming on it and threatening to drop. This is not the first time the beatings happened to her but so far this is the worst.
She dragged a deep breath and started telling the woman everything.
Her name is Alisha, seven years old, adopted by abusive parents. They make her beg for money on the streets. Her father beats her if the money she earned the whole day isn't enough. Sometimes both her parents. They doesn't care about her. The couple are both alcoholic and addicted to drugs.
She went home that day with just a few dollars in her pocket. Her parents are both drunk and high, asking her the money she earned. The started beating her simultaneously when she can't give them anymore than she should. She pleaded and begged them to stop but they just can't hear her until she can't speak anymore. She felt being dragged until she lost consciousness.
Sophia can't stop the tears and sobbing while listening to the little girl. She's so young to experience the things she just heard. She made a decision and asked the girl.
Alisha looked at Sophia unable to believe what she heard. She just nodded while teardrops continued to fall on her cheeks.
Sophia hold her hands and for the first time in her young life, she felt safe.
