Morgan
I crossed my arms across my chest as Rodney stood in front of me. "What are you doing here?"
"I came to talk to my wife," Rodney said.
"Ex-wife. You lost the right to call me your wife when you had your dick buried in that tramp."
"Oh, come on, Morgan," Rodney whined.
"Stop whining. It doesn't suit you. Or maybe it does, you toad."
"Can't we talk and work things out?"
"I saw you buried balls deep in that skank. That was self-explanatory."
"You don't understand."
Oh, hell no! I'm so sick of hearing that bullshit spew from Rodney's mouth. I dropped my arms, balled my fists, and stormed toward Rodney. He tripped as he backed up.
"Don't hand me that shit! I'm so sick of hearing I don't understand! How many tramps did you screw?"
"Only one!"
"So, you've been screwing Shelia the entire time?" If I could shoot fire from my eyes and set this road on fire, I would. Hell, I would roast marshmallows and laugh.
"Not the entire time."
Oh, this gets better and better.
"How long?"
"What?"
"How long have you been getting your willie wet?"
"Six months," Rodney whispered.
I stared at Rodney with pursed lips. My rage was worse than the Gilroy's bull when he charged you. I wish that bull were here so it could gouge Rodney repeatedly.
A pair of cowboy boots hit the wooden porch and approached me.
Hank moved in front of me to block Rodney's view. "I think it's best if you get going before I help you."
"You can't keep me from my wife. We're still legally married," Rodney hissed like the rattlesnake he was.
"You might be married on paper, but Morgan isn't your wife. A real man doesn't love other women. He loves one—his wife. You aren't a man. And you sure in the hell aren't a husband." Hank's deep, quiet voice sent chills down my spine.
"That's fine. But I'm not leaving until Morgan and I talk. Any judge would order divorcing spouses to sit down and talk."
"Good luck with your quest in Tacoma Falls. We protect our own. You are one of them. Mary has a rope with your name written on it."
I peeked around Hank to see Rodney hightail it to his car with his tail between his legs. Once he got in, he drove off.
Hank turned to me with a creased forehead. "Yeah, you're not staying here with a toad running around loose."
I shook my head and rolled my eyes.
*******
HankI figured that toad would show his face here. Rodney Ellis hated to lose. He would rub our faces in shit and laugh until we beat the hell out of him.
I called Pa to help me fix Morgan's door and bring a bag of clothes. Morgan assured me I didn't need to stay. I assured her I did. I would even sleep on the couch so that toad didn't try anything.
Pa arrived with his tools and helped me reinforce the door when Mary returned with the pies.
"Why is Pa here?" Mary asked.
