After talking to a blonde about horses because her boyfriend wanted information, I returned to the table to find Morgan gone. We checked everywhere but didn't find her. Then, Grayson texted me and told me to get my head out of my ass.

Little brother wants his ass beat. Wait until we take the horses out. Grayson added that he dropped Morgan at her house. He's still getting his ass beat.

I hightailed it to Morgan's place, grabbed the spare key, and let myself in. Then, I ran to her bedroom to find her lying on her bed, staring at the ceiling.

After going back and forth, I finally admitted the truth to her. Morgan gaped at me. To prove my point, I hauled her to her feet and crashed my lips into hers.

Pa always said if you want something bad enough, you need to go after it. Never let anything stop you. I wasn't letting anything get my way now.

I deepened the kiss, moved my arms around Morgan's waist, and pressed her body to mine. Morgan snaked her arms around my neck and stood on her top toes as she kissed me back.

After a few minutes, we eased back from the kiss. "Sorry. It's been damn hard waiting to kiss you."

Morgan looked at me, trying to form words.

"We don't need to rush anything. I know you're still dealing with everything. But I wanted to stake my claim before another guy does."

"But what would people say?"

"To hell what people will say. It's not their life."

Morgan stared at me.

"I've waited for years to make a move. I had to watch Rodney take you from me. Now, I got my chance. When your divorce becomes final, I'm taking you on a date."

Morgan's brows lifted in surprise as her mouth hung open. So, I took that as my cue to help her close her mouth and planted a kiss on her lips. We might as make the best use of our mouths if we weren't talking.

I could taste the mixture of beer and whiskey on Hank's tongue. His woodsy cologne invaded my nose as it engulfed my senses.

We finally broke from the kiss. Hank slid his hand into mine, intertwined my fingers, and led me from the bedroom downstairs to the living room. He lifted me from my feet, sat down, and placed me in his lap.

"Aren't we moving a bit fast?" I asked.

"Darlin, this isn't fast. This is me staking my claim."

"I don't need people talking. It's bad enough Rodney is fighting me on the divorce."

"I don't care if people talk. Let them." Hank shrugged. "I've known you for years."

"You won't make this easy, will you?"

"Darlin, if I have to prove to you my intentions, I will."

I saw the sheer determination on Hank's face. He meant what he said. Dalton would disapprove if Hank played games with me.

"I see the doubts. But I promise I'm not going anywhere. If you get sick of me, I'm staying put."

"Words are fine. But actions speak louder."

"Then, I'll prove it. Whatever you need, Darlin, I'll do it."

I shook my head and looked at Hank. It didn't matter what I said. Hank would prove me wrong and change my life for the better.

I've waited years to confess my feelings to Morgan, and tonight proved why I couldn't wait any longer. Dixie had to run her mouth. Beau needs to muzzle her before I do.
