CHAPTER SIX
a chance to change

"They can't let them back," Daniel's mother says about Cobra Kai, "They're nothing but a bunch of bullies.

Maeve glances at Sam.

"Well, they can't all be bullies, can they?" Maeve doesn't let it slip that she's defending her friends.

"Trust me, sweetheart, you don't know the half of it," Her grandmother explains, "Those Cobra jerks made my little boy's life miserable. Remember when they pushed you down that hill?"

"They've already heard it, ma." Daniel explains.

Anthony furrows his eyebrows, "I thought it was a cliff."

"You know, that son of a bitch has a lot of nerve entering the tournament," Daniel's cousin, Louie, speaks up, "Especially after everything he's done to you."

"What if... Cobra Kai changed?" Sam suggests, "There are some kids from my school who are in it. That doesn't make them automatically bad, does it?"

"Cobra Kai will never change." Daniel shakes his head, "You girls promise me you'll stay away from the kids who are in it?"

Sam stops speaking, afraid to talk back to her father.

"That's not fair." Maeve says.

The table goes silent.

"Cobra Kai won't change if you don't let them," Maeve shrugs, "Besides, isn't the old sensei like 100? I get that the new one bullied you, but, dude. That was forever ago. That was 1984."

Anthony chuckles.

"Hate Cobra Kai all you want," Maeve says, "I just think it's bullshit that you won't give them a chance to change."

"Language," Amanda glares.

It's quiet for a minute again.

Daniel softly shakes his head, "That's enough, Maeve."

Venus opens the door, walking into her house, definitely not wanting any attention from her dad, but being unpleasantly surprised to hear him call her name.

"What's up?" Venus asks.

Her father sighs, "We need to talk about karate at your school--"

Venus pauses, "If this is gonna take long, mind if I make a call first?"

He rolls his eyes, "Okay, whatever."

"Thanks," Venus smiles and calls Miguel.

It rings a couple times before he answers.

"Hi," Miguel says.

"Hey," Venus responds walking into another room for privacy, "I feel like we haven't talked in forever, I'm sorry."

"I was hoping we could see a movie tomorrow." Miguel says, "If you're up for it."

"I would, but I have to go to this thing with my sister and my dad." Venus explains, "Sunday?"
