The castle was silent as Harry slipped back through the halls, the weight of what had just happened pressing against his mind like an unspoken truth. His cloak kept him hidden, his footsteps light, but it didn't matter-no one was awake, no one would have seen him.

No one except Malfoy.

And the fox.

Harry frowned as he walked, his fingers brushing absentmindedly against the fabric of his sleeve. Malfoy's presence had settled him in a way nothing else had. The pain had vanished, his magic had stilled, and for the first time all day, he hadn't felt like his own body was working against him.

That wasn't normal.

He knew what it meant.

The word sat heavy in his mind, something he had skimmed over before but never given much thought to. He knew enough to understand the basics-how magic called to magic, how certain individuals resonated on a deeper level, how this wasn't something that could be forced or ignored.

A bond.

An involuntary, unforgiving bond.

And Malfoy had it.

It made sense now-why his magic had been writhing inside him, why he had been drawn here without thinking. Why standing there, breathing in vanilla and mint, had felt like standing in the eye of a storm-calm, safe, untouchable.

But Harry had spent his entire life resisting things he should want.

He wasn't about to stop now.

His steps quickened as he neared the Gryffindor dorms. He needed to sleep, to let his mind reset, to figure out how to untangle himself from whatever this was. Maybe it was nothing. Maybe it would fade. Maybe he was overreacting.

But the deeper part of him-the part that had whispered in the Astronomy Tower, the part that had urged him forward-knew better.

This wasn't something he could ignore.

It wasn't something he could run from.

Because the next time he found himself drawn to Malfoy, the next time the world settled around him just by standing too close-he might not want to leave.

Albus Dumbledore sat in his office, fingers lightly steepled as he gazed into the swirling mist of his Pensieve. The castle was never truly silent, not to one who had spent decades attuning himself to its magic. Tonight, however, the castle hummed with something different. A shift. A ripple in the undercurrents of fate.

He had felt it earlier, a pulse of energy that momentarily broke through the castle's wards-subtle, but undeniable. Something old stirring. Something binding.

His fingers tapped lightly against the armrest of his chair. He already had his suspicions, but the magic itself had yet to fully take shape.

A slow smile formed beneath his beard, eyes twinkling with the sharp gleam of understanding.

It had begun.

Ron Weasley was not a subtle person.

He was not dense, either-despite what Hermione liked to imply whenever he asked too many questions in class. And right now, something was off with Harry.

He had noticed it at dinner.

Harry had barely touched his food, which in and of itself was alarming, but it was more than that. He had seemed... distant. Not brooding, exactly-Harry was always brooding about something-but distracted. Like his mind was somewhere else entirely.

And then there was that moment-when some Slytherin had walked past and knocked into the table. It had barely been a touch, but Harry had flinched.

Ron frowned.

That wasn't normal.

It wasn't even the flinch itself-it was the way Harry's hand had curled around his forearm afterward, pressing over his sleeve like he was checking for something.

Something had happened today.

And he had a sinking feeling that, whatever it was, it wasn't good.
