You're day had been bad. Horrible even. You had been fired from your job at the library for "yelling at a customer." Well, they deserved it. Even if it was a kid.

You were walking home now, it was insanely dark. The moon was the only thing lighting your path and keeping you from tripping over stuff. You missed the bus and tried calling an Uber, but your phone was dead. So now you had to walk quite a while to get home.

The night was nice at least. Cool breeze, full moon, no one there to bother you. As you kept walking, your body kinda just went auto pilot. You were thinking about stuff while your body just moved.

You started thinking about all the bad stuff that happened today...getting fired, not catching the bus, phone dead, coffee machine was broken, many Karen's complained about having to pay for a book that they ripped. Who even does that?

Your life kinda sucked right now, but you reassured it get better. You just needed to get home, charge your phone, set an alarm for when the bus comes and goes, find a new job, fix the coffee machine, and then everything would be great! It sounded like a lot...because maybe it was. What you needed was a nice long break.

You walked passed dark alleys, which you kinda sprinted by. Convenience stores were the only thing open, aside from the few gas stations. The cool breeze played with your hair, and brushed against your skin.

You kept walking for what felt like eternity before making it to your apartment building. You entered into the lobby, being greeted by the receptionist. "Hey! What's up? You're back late!" He chuckled behind the desk as he set his magazine down and looked at you, waiting for an answer. You grumbled something and headed towards the elevator.

"Oh! Sorry, the elevator is out of order! We'll get it fixed soon though!" He said as he picked up his magazine again. You groaned as you headed to the stairs. "Oh, and you got a package waiting for ya!" The man added, not looking away from his magazine. You stopped in your tracks. Who gave you a package?

You walked up the many flights of stairs, all while you thought of the package. Who gave it to you? Your parents were dead. You didn't really have any friends. You cut yourself off from any and all relatives, so none of them knew where you live. Maybe the receptionists? But he didn't seem to give two shits about you, only really caring about greeting you. You needed to know, so you started going faster up the stairs. You were on the 8 floor and only had 5 floors to go. You were then interrupted by a nice old lady you knew.

"Oh hi there, dearie! I haven't seen you on this floor since forever!" She says sweetly as she adjusts her glasses. "Oh, it's because the elevator is broken." You simply respond before trying to leave again. "Wait, would you like to have some dinner with me? My children and grandchildren came to visit me and my husband, so we have plenty of food for you!" The lady adds. Dinner sounded great, and you could smell the delicious food from the apartment. You debated whether to go inside or not. But you really wanted to see the package.

"I'm really sorry, but I can't. I might join you later if I have time! But if I can't make it...uh...maybe you could save some for me?" You asks nervously. The old woman nods and waves you goodbye before stepping back into her apartment. You smiled back and as she closed the door, you ran back to the set of stairs. You practically flew up the stairs, finally making it to your room. Your legs hurt bad. You really should really request a room change on a lower floor instead of the damn highest floor.

You almost collapsed on the floor but held yourself up. Sure enough, there was a package at your door. It was a simple brown box. Only a sticker that had your address on it. No trace of where it came from. It was just...there. You picked up the box, it had some weight to it. You hauled it into your small apartment.
