Regulus was sitting on his couch, playing with the rings on his right hand, and not knowing what to do or say. His mother had told him to get out of his room and spend some time with his family, but when he got downstairs, both his parents where reading the Daily Prophet in complete silence.

He didn't quite like spending time with his parents. When his brother was still at home, he could pretend to be in his room when, instead, he was in Sirius' room. But now that he was gone and that he had to pretend to hate him if he didn't to receive the abuse Sirius' had to endure, life inside that house had become more and more difficult and tense.

He liked Hogwarts, he loved it because he could be himself, he could joke, laugh and pretend like the world wasn't ending. He also loved it because he could see Aurora everyday.

He was looking forward to Christmas Eve; he could see his friends, he could get away from his family for a bit, and he could see Aurora.

He knew that their strange sex-hate relationship with her wasn't the healthiest thing for his heart, but at least this way he knew that she couldn't resist him, that there was a part of her that loved him, even if it was just inside the sheets. It was the only time he could be with her, praise her and care for her as much as he wanted without her noticing a thing.

He didn't know how it happened, but throughout his fourth year, he began to think about Aurora much more often. He began to notice how her hair shone, how her laugh sounded, how her smile sparkled.

And then he discovered that to her, Regulus was just another one of her classmates. That even though she had become the most important thing in his life and the only thing on his mind, she thought of him as just another housemate and didn't give him much more importance, hardly paid him any attention at all.

That's when he started to make life miserable for her. He started to tease and annoy her, to drive her crazy, to piss her off every chance he got, because even when she was at her angriest, he still thought she was the most beautiful soul on the planet.

And, before he knew it, he had become her own worst enemy and her greatest academic rival. And an important part of Aurora's life, even if it was only because she hated him.

''I'm going to fuck her, ii know it. And it'll be before the end of the course. I promise you, gentlemen.'' Evan Rosier said, as he stretched out on the sofa in his living room ''Aurora Robertson will be mine. Florence told me she finds me funny.''

Regulus laughed.

''Yeah, sure.'' he said in a sarcastic tone.

''You don't think I can do it, Black? How much do you want to bet?''

Regulus shook his head.

''I'm not going to bet like Aurora is a quidditch match that can be won or lost. And I'm also not going to bet because Aurora is sure she doesn't want to date anyone. And as far as I know, she hasn't slept with anyone for a long time,'' he lied, as if he hadn't had her in his arms a fortnight ago.

''She's had more boyfriends, I could be one of them.''

''You'll fail, Rosier.''

Evan snorted, fed up with Regulus not deigning to agree with him.

''Whatever you say. I'll fuck her, no matter what, whatever it takes.''

Regulus frowned, he didn't like that answer, it didn't bode well.

The two boys, along with the other three boys that were sat on several couches and armchairs, turned to see who was coming down the stairs of the house when they heard footsteps.

''Hi, guys.'' Florence greeted them, peering into the hall to see who had come to visit her brother ''Hi, Regulus.''

Evan seemed to forget his momentary annoyance and gave Regulus a mischievous look. Regulus ignored him.

''Hey, Florence. How's your break doing? Have you had any rest?'' he said, being as kind as he could be.

He had realised on his date with her that they couldn't have a stable relationship, at least not as long as he was still head over heels in love with Aurora.

But he didn't want to hurt her either, so he had decided to be as friendly as he could, and try to avoid misunderstandings. Even though Florence still thought she had an chance with him.

''It's going great. How about yours?''

''Flor,'' Evan interrumpted her, turning Florence's attention to him ''Do you need something, or you just came to flirt with Regulus?''

Florence blushed immediately.

''Um... I... I was going to head out, I'm meeting Tabitha and Evelynn in Diagon Alley.''

''Then leave.''

Florence ducked her head and, without even saying goodbye, walked to the door.

''Bye, Florence!'' Regulus exclaimed.

''Bye.'' she responded.

''What are you and my sister up to? I know you had a date, do I have to call you brother-in-law?'' Evan said, half joking.

''Yeah, Black, tell us,'' Marcus Walker said ''Did you fuck her?''

''Hey,'' Evan mused ''It's my sister you're talking about, don't cross the line.''

''Yes, sorry.'' Marcus apologised.

Regulus laughed.

''No, Rosier, you don't have to call me brother-in-law. We had a date, that's it. It went good, she's really nice...''

''But...''

''But that's it. I don't see her as more than a friend.''

Evan grimaced.

''What a shame, it would have been nice to see you at the family gatherings. You know, you, me, Florence, and Aurora.''

Regulus shrugged and rolled his eyes. The two of them had always been friends, though they often argued and Regulus did not support all of Evan's behaviour and decisions. For instance, Evan simply sought out Aurora to score a point and brag about getting the best girl at Hogwarts; whereas Regulus would never do such a thing. Regulus worshipped the ground she walked in.

Evan always said the first thing that popped into his head, and many times, the things that came out of his mouth could be considered unethical. And Regulus was the only person who wasn't afraid of his anger and was capable of correcting or confronting him, so they often clashed. But they were still good friends.
