"Are you a thunderbolt?
-No."
Wednesday clicked her tongue, frustrated that she couldn't find out what Jacob was.
"Why you gotta see a therapist when we already all know you're crazy?
-Court ordered."
Jacob snickered while taking a sharp turn. The soft hum of his engine seemed to mimick Wednesday calmness instead of being the loud and powerful V8 it usually is.
"I wonder if I would have gotten this too if I commited war crimes.
-Wouldn't you like to know.
-I'm just curious, it's in my nature."
-You would've been executed. Which makes me wonder why you didn't. Would've been a favour for everyone.
-Is that a way to speak to your driver? Why am I even driving you?
-Because I asked you nicely.
-You threatened me first thing in the morning. But I guess that's the Addams' nice way to ask for something."
-I could've killed you instead.
-Good luck trying, I'm the strongest after all."
Jacob suddenly turned the wheel and pulled the handbrake, making the car spin and park perfectly.
"While I no longer doubt your strength I think you may be a little too sure about yourself.
-Never."
He turned the car off.
"Well, good luck on doing that. I've got some business to take care of but I'll be waiting for you in the car by the time you're finished."
Wednesday got out of the car.
"If you make me wait I'll burn you.
-Dully noted."
Jacob got out of the car and closed it.
"Have fun."
He left without waiting for an answer.
"I've known you for 259 years and you still can't be on time for anything."
Jacob sat in front of the young woman sitting in the booth in the coffee shop. She had ashen blonde hair, pale skin and eyes hidden behind sunglasses just like his.
"Do I look like I care?"
She sighs.
"You never change.
-I'm an old man.
-Let me rectify that. You're getting more foolish than before.
-I'm nearing my end.
-Me too, maybe that's why we can bear each-other now."
Jacob scoffed.
"What is nearing your end for a vampire, huh? 300 years? 600?
-50 actually.
-Oh."
Jacob looked down.
"I...
-Don't be sorry. My life was well led. I have no regrets. You don't have much left either anyway.
-100 years at most.
-Ha, who would have thought I would be the first one to go with how reckless you are. Seems like I lost my bet."
Jacob reached out for her hand, feeling a spike of melancoly in the woman's voice. Despite her teenage appearance she was as old as he was.
