Aletta and Reagan swam quietly behind Leonore. As the seconds went by, Aletta looked around, unease written all over her face.
"Why haven't we encountered any myriad yet?", she voiced out, her voice laced with concern and wary.
"Myriads are typically night time creatures...and they don't like to hover around the borders", Reagan explained.
Aletta nodded, but the worried frown never left her face. A minute passed and Aletta shook her head. "No. Something isn't right. The water is too...calm"
Suddenly, Aletta's brown eyes dilated and she quickly pushed Reagan away from her just in time to see a figure swim pass between them with unnatural speed. It headed straight for Leonore.
"What was that?", she yelled to Reagan.
Reagan didn't reply. He quickly pulled a dagger from his waist as another inhumanely fast myriad made its way towards them. He threw it at the myriad and the dagger met met the myriad square in the eye with precise aim.
The myriad instantly turned limp and Aletta watched as the myriad sank to the bottom of the sea slowly.
From the short distance, she could tell something about the myriad was wrong. Its skin was grey and dead already.
"Why does it look that?", Aletta asked.
Reagan silently pulled on the vine, bringing Aletta closer to him. "There's something wrong"
"You don't say", Aletta muttered.
Reagan looked towards his brother to find him examining the corpse of the myriad that had attacked him earlier.
They began swimming towards him.
"How did you know we were about to get attacked?", Reagan asked.
Aletta pursed her lips. "I just knew"
"You're lying", Reagan calmly replied, earning a flinch from Aletta. When she remained silent, Reagan narrowed his eyes. "You're somewhat connected to the sea, aren't you?"
But there was no room for a reply, Reagan left Aletta's side once they reached Leonore.
"Just like I thought", Leonore chuckled. "These things aren't alive"
Aletta frowned. "You mean..."
"They were dead before they attacked us, yes", Leonore replied. He had his dagger in the male myriad's torso, right above where the tail began.
There was no bleeding at all.
"How is that even possible?", Aletta asked with wide eyes.
Leonore looked ahead. "We need to get to get to the cave where the weed is stored..."
Getting to the cave didn't take long and when they did get there, Leonore burst out laughing.
Aletta had her eyes and mouth open in shock.
"This is certainly something to see", Leonore spoke.
Surrounding the cave was a bunch of myriads who resembled the two myriads Leonore and Reagan had just killed. They looked dead.
Their skin was ashen grey, a stark contrast to how it was supposed to be, pearly and scaly but still porcelain.
Their eyes were somewhat similar, grey and dead, like ones belonging to a dead fish. The fangs in the mouths had grown and it looked especially feral.
The myriads snarled when they noticed them.
"They're doing well", Leonore commented, sarcastically.
"What's wrong with them?", Reagan asked.
"I have an idea", Leonore replied, pointing at the cave behind them that looked completely destroyed and shattered. "That's where the weed is supposed to be kept"
"The water's poisoned?", Aletta asked.
"Even if it is, it's suppose to kill them...knock them out at the very least. Not zombify them...or whatever this is", Reagan argued. "There's more to this"
"We need to find the king and queen", Aletta worriedly stated.
Leonore half scoffed, half laughed. "Trust me, Alira, the king can handle protecting himself and the queen"
Aletta frowned. "It's Aletta..."
"Well I hope you're as confident in your fighting skills as you are in your name accuracy", Leonore replied, getting into a defensive position.
Aletta gulped nervously. Myriads were proudly the strongest fighters in the entirety of the seven seas.
Reagan seemed to sense her anxiety and pulled her closer. "Stay close and follow my lead, you'll be alright"
Aletta nodded, retrieving her dagger from her side with a deep breath.
"Let's go!", Leonore lunged at myriads.
