You stretched and yawned, already feeling the back pain from sleeping on the dormitory beds.

"You really ought to get up earlier Y/n"

Your ears alerted at the familiar voice. You turned your head to see Mila up and ready reading a book.

"Morning.."

You groaned in response, stretching again to attempt to release the pressure in your back and shoulders.

Mornings were always the worst, it was when your illness was bothering you and weakening you the most, especially in the cold.

With a sigh you got up slowly to allow your body to adjust to the sudden upright posture.

"Do you have coffee..?"

Letting out a giggle Mila laughed at how "enthusiastic" you were.

"There's some in the pot, eat something with that too won't you?"

It seems Mila didn't have to know you long enough to know you didn't take care of yourself, well, you really only knew her for a day.

But your appearance gave it away, not only were you pale but you were super thin too. To the point that strangers looked at you in the street with pity in their eyes. Feeling sorrow for a person they did not know, purely out of assumption for the other person's situation.

Sure, you were sick but you hated that pitied look, it only served to make you irritated with people.

pouring yourself a cup of coffee avoiding any sugar and only adding a droplet of milk you sipped on it slowly. It was luke-warm which allowed the full flavour to soak in and dance around in your mouth.

Usually in the morning because you felt so bad all you could tolerate was coffee and a cigarette, but since Mila implied that you eat something you didn't want to worry her by not eating.

Making some quick toast you devoured it in disgust, trying not to show it on your face.

"So… I didn't really want to pry yesterday.. but who is it you're actually looking for, because I feel confident I could help you in your search."

Mila let out a sigh as she sat with her own cup of coffee in front of her. You could tell she was expecting a genuine answer from you but you couldn't tell her yet. You needed to keep her just a little longer.

"..."

You put your head down and kept silent hoping she would leave it alone.

"You said he's a doctor right? Again, we nurses like to keep tabs on others in the medical field, I'll probably know them.. so…?"

She was pushing it, she was getting too curious. Was it really time to cut ties already..? What a shame, you thought you could feel a bond forming. Once again, you THOUGHT something and once again, it wasn't going to end well.

"I- I can't.. just-"

You kept your head down talking in a hushed voice.

"Please, it can't be that bad right? What is it you're trying to hide?"

She knew, she knew it was something bad. That's not good.

Usually people who have been enrolled in the fatui for a while know to keep tabs on suspicious people due to the fact that the fatui has always had a spy problem, people joining just to spy and cause trouble.

"..."

"He's not.. he-"

"Oh fuck it, she's already suspicious of me, I have to tell her now". You were ready to tell her about him, she WOULD know who he was after all, his reputation exceeded far beyond just the fatui.
You were ready, but. The words just wouldn't come out. They couldn't leave your chest.
Why.
