The cold water splashed up, drenching my shoes and the cuffs of my jeans. Great, well thats just great, these were my good jeans. And the rain couldn't have waited for five more minuets. I scowled under my breath as I walked into the small coffee shop. A strong wave of coffee beans reached my nose. Making a look of disgust, I walked to a vacant table by the windows. This was my daily routine. Walk in, sit down in the horrendous small of the coffee shop, and wait. For what or who? I have no idea.

But as I sat down today, I couldn't help but tell that something was going to be different today, something was going to happen. Will my last human walk in the coffee shop? Will this place explode so I can finally go back to my home? No, my ruler would make sure that wouldn't happen. Ha, scum bag probably doesn't even know that I'm almost done with my task. In the past 5 years, I have helped 9 people. Thats right, you heard me, 9 people. I only need one more little sucker now. Ha, suck on that.

A chill was sent down my spine and the feeling I got grew worse. I had a strong feeling that today would be the day I get my last person for my task. The wind outside has seemed to pick up and the leaves on the trees waved wildly in the wind, wishing to escape the wrath on the tree they grew upon. Cars created waves of puddles as they drove down the street and the street lights swayed back and forth with a forceful manor. What ever was going on outside, I didn't want to be there to see it.

"People watching again I see," my one and only friend Christina said wiping her hands off on the dish rag she had.

"Hey, its just what I do. You can't blame me for doing something I love." She shook her head and chuckled. Her chocolate colored hair swept across her face.

"I can't blame you cause you're just weird to the entire shop. You're here everyday and everyone wonders why."

" They can wonder all they want, they won't get any answers on my personal life."

"Oh, now we're back to the 'its just business stuff'. Business stuff for only like what? For the past 5 years? Girl it's gotta be something more than that. Hell, I barely ever see you eat for crying out loud!"

"Hey, I eat something for breakfast. You know that."

"Yeah, bread, you eat only bread!"

"Cause I like bread. Don't judge me." I said with poison on the tip of my tongue. Christina shook her head and sighed.

"Well, if you need anything, I'm working all day. So, just give a holler."

"Sure thing."

"Ok girly, ta ta for now." She smiled and skipped to the door to greet her boyfriend who just walked in. His name was Mace, one of my halfling buddies. They made a sweet embrace and kissed him gently on the lips. Once she was done greeting him, he put on his apron and went back to the kitchen to brew some more coffee. She smiled and moved on to do her next job, which was cleaning out the toilets in the ladies room. The poor girl worked too hard to be stuck in a dump like this. She was really smart, no doubt about it, but she couldn't go to college cause sadly, her parents couldn't afford it.

And I know you are about to give me the 'why am I not helping her as my last person?'. Well you see, she was already assigned to Mace, and by the looks of it, it seemed to work out for the both of them. She was his first, and sadly his last. Mace was sentenced to only 5 years on earth for the stupidest reason. He managed to disobey his father who happened to be a part of the high counsel. I swear that's the reason, and his sentence ended a week ago. Why didn't he go back? Well if it isn't obvious enough, he fell in love with Christina.

As much as I am happy for Mace, I can't be. Halfling's can't be with humans, even though we are part human, it still messes up the off spring effect. If the child is a halfling, it must be killed by the father or mother halfling. If the child is born human, the halfling must leave. Killer I know right? That's why I forbid my love to be anything other than my one and only, Alice.

My thoughts were quickly consumed by the thought of my beautiful girlfriend. Most relationships in heaven are arranged and no one gets much of a choice since fate puts us together. But no, not my Alice. I have claimed her and she is mine. If anyone were to take her away from me, all hell would break loose. That's the last thing the heavens wanted. Yeah, I thought so. Together we could adopt the cutest little babies in the adoption center and raise them as our own. We'd bend the laws of the heavens and get married. Once I have claimed the throne as well, I will change the laws to halfling relations and allow-

A loud screech from outside broke me away from my thoughts. My head snapped in the direction it came from and saw a car about to hit a motorcycle. With my insane speed and strength, I sped out of the little shop and jumped at the girl on the bike, wrapping my midnight black wings around her. I reached her just in time, one second later and she would've gone flying off the back of her bike. We landed in the brush on the side of the road. I groaned. Boy was I going to feel this impact tomorrow. I slowly unwrapped my wings from around her and was able to get a good look at her face.

Gold hair and lips curved to perfection. I could've sworn she was the most beautiful human girl I have ever seen. My heart began to pump in my chest, in a way it has never pumped before. Her body was slimmed to perfection and I couldn't think of anyone more beautiful and perfect than her. I began to feel myself blush as she moved against me. This was it, she was the one. The last person I needed to help so I could go back to where I belonged. After months of searching, I have finally found the last.
