I carefully moved the girl off of my body and stood up. Groaning, I stretched my arms out. Boy I was definitely going to feel this sucker tomorrow, good thing angels heal fast. I moved my light brown hair out of my face as I crouched down next to the girl. I gently tilted her head to the side as I looked for her heart beat. She was alive, no doubt about it, and from what I could see, she had no broken bones. Ha, all thanks to me. I thought to myself.
Her eyes suddenly snapped open and out of reflexes, I'm assuming, she thrusted her fist up in the air towards my face. I caught the punch right before her knuckles could connect with my nose. Her angelic blue eyes held fear and panic as she looked at me. Her breathing increased and she started shaking.
"Hey hey hey, shhhh, you're ok. You're ok." I said as calm and quiet as I could. This was good practice for me, since we would be getting to know each other a lot better in a couple of days. And because I'm not the nicest person in the whole wide world. Believe me when I say that. I can be a really mean bitch when I want to be. When I say I want to be, I mean, all of the time.
By now we had a nice crowd of people around us and by nice crowd, I mean a crowd of about 40 people. I guess this person had some sort of meaning to the world, and if not, they would be backing off very fast, very soon. They were all muttering about if she was ok. I mean if they all knew what I was, then they wouldn't be talking about her being ok, but of course they didn't. Oh well.
The faint sound of sirens could be heard in the distance. Great, thats just what I needed, the police and medics to get involved with my work, well that's just great. I sighed and looked up to see Christina dashing over to me with Mace by her side.
"Oh my gosh Piper! Are you ok?! One second you were in the cafe and the next I see you standing at the scene of a car accident! What did you do?! Are you ok? Do you need medical attention?" Damn was she annoying sometimes. I mean, I love this girl to death and everything but seriously, personal business?
"Christina, I'm fine thanks for asking," I said looking down at the beautiful girl- I mean my female assignment or mission should I say, "I just hope she's ok." The girl that was laying on the ground underneath me was shaking so hard it would be impossible to think that she wasn't. As much as I couldn't like her because of Alice, she was definitely gorgeous. Her golden hair took my breath away along with her angelic blue eyes. The irony was held in her eyes. Because they looked so angelic, I thought to myself, the fates chose another halfling for me to help? We're supposed to guide other people, not help other halflings. The fates were just messed up beyond belief.
"Oh thank god you're ok. I don't think I could live with myself knowing that we had a not so interesting last conversation. Oh thank the lord." She sighed and put a hand on my shoulder. I put my hand over hers and gave her a half ass smile.
"I'm gonna stick with her, you get back to work ok?"
"Ok," she said patting my shoulder, "no more scaring me half to death girl. God, enough heart attacks for the day." I rolled my eyes and smiled.
"No promises," I smirked and winked at her.
"Oh you little shit!" She pushed my shoulder away and huffed. I laughed and shook my head as she stormed back to the little caffe. Most of the people had cleared out by now since the sound of the sirens were literally right around the corner. And that was a good thing. Less people for me to deal with. That took a lot off of my back. Phew.
"Hey, you sure you're alright? No broken wings or anything right?" Mace, who had stayed behind for me, asked in a whisper.
"Yeah," I whispered back so the beautiful girl couldn't hear, "I'm ok. I mean I landed on my back in the brush and all but it was dirt, not concrete. You know what I mean?"
