I'm a mess by Ed Sheeran

Wow. So. I've been trying to think of things to write because I just jumped into this story without really thinking about it. I'm pretty sure I got a good idea. Yeah.

So I keep forgetting to mention this, but PLEASE VOTE because I've been working hard on this story and I would love for other people to read it! The more votes, the more it gets out there. So thank you if you do. Ok. Let's do this.

Sam's POV

I started coughing really bad in the middle of the day, so I went home. Everly was feeling a lot better so I wasn't worrying about her too much. Until she didn't come home.

She was supposed to be at my house at four, and as the minutes ticked by, I grew more and more anxious. Where is she? At 5:15, the door opened and shut. I raced out of my room and stood to face Everly. She looked shocked to see my expression and....a little guilty.

"Oh, Sam, hey...." She trailed off.

"Where have you been?" I practically shouted. "You had me and my mother worried. You can't just disappear like that and not tell anyone, Ev! If something had happened to you, I would have blamed myself. Ok? Don't ever do something like that again!"

Everly stared at me. "Well I'm sorry I have my own life and don't tell you about every five minutes of my life. I actually was going to tell you where I was, but now I'm just not sure."

"Everly-" I began with a sort of snarl, but she stopped me dead with one of her looks.

"I'm going home. See you around, Sam. I hope you feel better."

And just like that, she was out the door and gone. I knew I should have gone after her, but my feet seemed glued to the floor. What had happened to her? Couldn't she see that I was just worried for her? I really would blame myself if something had happened to her. She can't just go off running like she did. But....she was right in saying I couldn't police her life.

I sighed and sat down heavily onto the couch. There was no way I'd be able to blow this over with her, not for a while. As much as I adored Ev, her stubbornness often got the best of me. I got up and went to the bathroom. I turned on the sink and splashed water on my face, staring at my refection in the mirror. Lately, I've felt like I barely recognize the boy looking back at me. His long, tanned face with a tousle of brown hair perched on his head. His smile, his scowl. My eyes were the only things that had never changed. Everly said they looked a lot like my soul, they just didn't pulse or change color. They were dark blue rimmed with a gray so dark it was almost black. I put a hand on the mirror and looked away. What was going on with me?

I hadn't told Ev that I had been seeing souls more frequently, whether she was around me or not. I didn't know what that meant. Did I have the same ability as Everly? I didn't have answers. But I thought I knew someone that did.

Connor.
