Stocker grunted with a scowl and shot at us. Boss Ember and his lackeys took the cue and fired their slugs. With Boss Ember blasting four blasters at the same time, we were quickly outnumbered even though we had almost the same number of slingers on each side.
"They are out of their minds to be challenging the Shane Gang!" Pronto yelled, before he squealed and ran away with a Tazerling right at his tail. "But somehow they are having the upper hand!"
"This is not looking good, Eli," Trixie yelled out to Eli over the loud pounding of airstrike, loading up her Arachnet in her blaster and fired it at the incoming slugs. Megamorphed, it knitted a spider web and bounced a Hop Rock off of it, causing it to crash into an incoming Rammstone.
"It sure isn't looking good!" Mia shouted, before she dove to avoid an attack from a Sand Angler. "We need cover!"
"Kord!" Eli called for the cave troll who was almost lit on fire by a Flaringo.
"I don't think the local authorities would like a trench being dug out by the Shane Gang on their conserved land!" Kord argued, firing his Tazerling but was knocked away by an Armashelt, ended up tasing Pronto instead, though he didn't realise it was Kord's Tazerling.
"I don't think the local authorities would like the news of us killed on their property either!" Junjie yelled, firing his Tormato that expertly caught numerous slugs into tornados but was ultimately defeated by a Polero.
"If we can't dig down," Eli said, blasting Buzzsaw, his Thresher, before looking over at me. "We build up."
I gave him a confident nod, before loading up Jack on one end of my blaster.
"I trust that you know what you're doing, bud," I whispered, forcing out a smile at the slug sitting in my blaster, and he returned it.
"Show them what you got!" I said with a glare, spinning my blaster in hand before firing the Narwhaddle. Jack chirped as he quickly reached velocity. After a skillful front flip, he megamorphed, letting out an ear-piercing roar that even shook the approaching megamorphed slugs. Staring fiercely at the now shivering slugs, he blew a wave of ice that froze the enemy's slugs, encasing them in ice, forcing them to drop to the ground with the extra weight of the ice harmlessly.
I holstered my blaster before raising my hands, swiftly swaying them to guide the Narwhaddle to turn around. Unlike his usual attitude in practise, he obeyed and veered back towards us, colliding with the ground in between us and the enemy. Enormous, sharp-edged ice spikes emerged from the ground, reaching incredible heights, about where a Crystal Worm would erect to, and we scrambled behind the spikes to take cover.
An icy feeling shivered down my spine as I pressed my back against one of the ice spikes, loading up my Jellyish. Eli ran up to me, and took cover behind the same structure. His Lavalynx hopped into the empty canister in his blaster, ready to be fired.
"Question," I said to him after coming out of hiding just enough to fire Slime and immediately darted back to dodge a Frightgeist. "Do we have a plan?"
A slug hit the ice spike we were behind, causing it to tremble, a huge part of the tip broke and fell to the ground next to us with a loud crash, the chunk of ice splitting into pieces.
"Yeah!" Eli said, wearing a nervous smile as he fired his Lavalynx and loaded up his Aquabeek next. "Step one, don't die-"
"Mia!"
Trixie's high pitched cry echoed into my ear and all the noises from the gunfire subsided. It sounded too familiar. There was a ringing in my ear when I turned around to see where she was when horror struck my face. I saw Mia laying on the grassland a few feet away from where I was, her blaster away from her hand, unconscious.
