"Your failure doesn't bode well for you, you know."

Those words rang through her ears; the constant noise was almost deafening. She wanted nothing more than for it all to miraculously end, but she knew that wasn't possible. Her fate had already been sealed, and there was not a thing that could be done about it.

She felt a sharp stinging sensation in her abdomen. It went all the way up to her chest, then to her neck, before finally reaching her cheeks. They were soft to the touch, just the way her master liked them.

She gulped. None of this was right. She thought she would share the same fate as poor Nova, but she was mistaken. No, she was about to suffer a much more miserable punishment for her failure.

She should have tried harder. She should have tried harder to retrieve that damn Crystal. But she allowed a tiny marsupial to get under her skin. Was she that helpless now? Was she that insufferable? She was starting to believe so, and her master would agree.

"M-Master, please," she begged. "This isn't what I want."

"I don't care what you want, Kalli," her master growled in her ear, causing a shiver to run down her spine. "What makes you think what you want matters more than what I ask for? I gave you a simple task, and still you failed to obey me?"

"I'm sorry, Master. I truly am. I just--"

"I have already stated that apologizing will do you no good. Now stay still. This will be most painful, indeed...but not for me."

"Master, wait--"

Kalli's eyes widened. It was already too late. Before she knew it, her master was already violating her. She knew deep down that nothing about this was right, but she didn't dare do anything to stop it. It wasn't that she liked it. Quite the opposite, actually. She knew well that her master would destroy her if she ever resisted.

She didn't wish to be threatened with that again.

Just as Crash was about to step through the portal, N. Tropy's face appeared on the monitor as the Master of Time stated, "So, you pesky little rats aren't going to back off, eh? Just you continue to gather Crystals and see what I do!"

After that was over, Crash was finally able to go through the portal. He appeared in Saudi Arabia once more, only this time it was night rather than day. He took a step forward, but he jumped slightly when a light tapping could be felt on his shoulder.

"Oh, sorry. Did I scare you?"

Crash turned to face none other than Megumi. "Yeah, but it's all right," he replied. "Now let's go get that Crystal."

"I pray we aren't confronted by that N. Trance character. He sounds like a...what's the word I'm looking for?"

"A creep?"

"Not exactly what I was thinking, but I'll go with it. Anyway, as you said, let's get that Crystal."

Unlike the last time Crash had to travel to Saudi Arabia, there were a lot more obstacles and enemies to avoid. With Megumi alongside him, though, getting through the ancient city seemed like a breeze.

"Thanks for the help back there," Crash said, referring to a group Lab Assistants the two bandicoots had just defeated. "I'd have been a goner if it weren't for you."

"And I'm happy to help!" Megumi said with a wide smile.

That expression was enough to satisfy Crash. As long as his friends were happy, he was content with his life. He could have all the riches in the world, but without his friends by his side, he would feel like nothing more than a soulless entity.
