Aurelia stood her ground, her gaze unwavering as she faced the girl from the woods and her two wolf companions. The tension in the air was palpable, and the crowd watched in silence, unsure of what would happen next.
"I don't have your stone," Aurelia said firmly, her voice carrying across the field. "I've never seen it, and I don't know what you're talking about. But I won't let you threaten me or my friends."
"We know you know where it's at white hair-"
Aurelia interrupted the brunette wolf, "My hair is blonde." She bit out through gritted teeth, letting the other wolves hear the warning she had intended for the brunette.
"Willia saw you." The brunette wolf snarled.
"She's wrong," Aurelia stood her ground, "my hair isn't white."
The dark-skinned werewolf, Willa, scoffed, stepping forward, "We can sense your magic, your words are useless."
Aurelia froze, her heart beating rapidly in her chest. Despite her confidence in herself, she suddenly felt very vulnerable, a twinge of fear pulsing through her veins. "I don't know what you're talking about."
Zed stepped forward, positioning himself between Aurelia and the girl from the woods. His tall and imposing figure cast a shadow over the confrontation, his green eyes locked onto the wolves with a mix of determination and concern.
"I think it's time you leave." Zed demanded in a stern voice, his nostrils flaring with agitation.
"Oh, you think so?" The dark-haired girl cocked her head to the side, seeming amused by Zed's assertive tone.
Aurelia shot a glance towards Zed. He looked determined and resolute, like a mighty oak tree, standing strong against the onslaught of relentless rain. Despite being uncertain of how things would turn out, she knew she wouldn't hesitate to put her life in Zed's hands if he asked her to do so.
Zed had given her more than just a sense of protection; he had instilled in her a belief in her own strength. He had shown her that she was not alone, that she had people who would stand by her side no matter what. And for that, she was eternally grateful.
The girl from the woods, now identified as Willa, smirked at Zed's declaration. "And what if we refuse?"
Zed's jaw tightened, and his gaze hardened. "Then you'll have to go through all of us."
Aurelia felt a surge of pride as she looked around at the football team, her friends, and Zed. They were all ready to fight for her, to protect her. She had never felt such a strong sense of belonging and support.
Willa's smirk faded, and she exchanged a glance with her companions. After a moment of tense silence, she sighed and stepped back. "This isn't over, White hair. We"ll be back."
With that, the trio turned and disappeared back into the woods, leaving the field in stunned silence.
Aurelia let out a breath she didn't realize she had been holding, her legs feeling weak with relief. She turned to Zed, her eyes filled with gratitude. "Thank you," she whispered.
Zed smiled softly, his earlier stern expression melting away. "Always, Ari. You know I've got your back."
As the crowd slowly started to disperse, still murmuring about the strange confrontation, Aurelia felt a mix of emotions. Relief that the immediate danger was over, gratitude towards Zed and her friends, and a newfound determination.
