Love. It's a fickle thing, isn't it?
No matter how hard you try and suppress it, love always manages to burst through the seams you have stitched in your heart, and come spilling out of you like lava out of a volcano. Once it's erupted, you can't stop it. By nature the lava will flow all the way down until it cools, and the cycle happens all over again.
Love will break you apart, and tear you down. It will eat at the most insecure and weakest parts of your heart and soul it can find. Love will build barriers and break them. Love will be the Achilles heel in the battlefield of romance and relationships. Love will be the Roman empire taking over and ruling any and all sense of self until you feel it burning in your body.
But to love something, or someone, is to be freed from the prison of your own loneliness and embrace the utopia of another's tainted love. To love something is to sacrifice and risk everything. Your dignity, your pride, your heart. To put everything on the line because in the end, no matter what, love is the purest and most bare form of humanity. To love is to suffer.
Love is pain, like a dagger to the heart. And, God, did Fallon want to twist the knife.
It was a restless night for Fallon, needless to say. She felt like she was suffocating in the Salvatore house after last night, and had the urge to leave and go home where she could find refuge in her bed while she pondered over her sudden realisation.
So, when Fallon had gotten dressed, her ears slightly throbbing because of the music the previous night, she was very surprised to see Jenna in the kitchen making herself some coffee.
"Jenna!" Fallon exclaimed, rushing over to hug the older woman very tightly.
"Hey, you!" Jenna replies with a laugh, swaying them slightly before letting go and handing Fallon a mug of coffee. She takes a sip and sighs at the warmth it radiates through her body.
"What finally brings you home?" Fallon asks her, holding the mug in between her hands. Jenna sighs and mimics her actions, leaning against the counter.
"I realised I had a job to do. I'm Elena and Jeremy's guardian, and I have a responsibility." Jenna states. Fallon gives her a soft, proud smile and nods her head. What an amazing woman. "And I might have missed you. Like a lot." Jenna added on at the end, sipping her coffee to hide her teasing smile.
Fallon laughed and shook her head. "Jenna, have I ever told you what a bad bitch you are?" She wistfully replies. Her phone starts buzzing on the counter then, Damon's name flashing across the screen. Remembering her recent epiphanies from the night before, Fallon swallows nervously before declining the call. Jenna notices this and narrows her eyes at her best friend/adopted niece.
"What was that all about?" Jenna asks as her eyes flicker over the young adult.
Fallon huffs and shakes her head. "Nothing. Don't want any distractions from you." Fallon gives Jenna a small reassuring smile, which she knows will do the exact opposite from the way Jenna hums skeptically.
