It was time see where the green cord would take us. Chase arrived behind cabin five a few minutes later than we agreed. "Sorry, Sam kept asking where I'm going." He explained with a huff. "I had to wait for her to pass out."
This sent a ping of jealousy through me, even though I liked seeing him happy and I liked Samantha. That alone was not enough to keep me from feeling like he was mine.
"Yeah, I waited for Peter to fall asleep too."
Chase and I stood there for a moment, his blue eye looking into my brown ones; longing. Maybe agreeing to sneak around the Deal Breaker grounds with him wasn't the best idea but neither was private swim lessons. But something fishy was going on here, and we didn't have many days left to find out what.
"I guess, let's get a move on." Chase said ushering me to where we'd seen the thick brown cord, he crouched down and picked it up with his hands. Chase had on dark jeans, a black v-neck shirt and black beanie. He looked like he was ready to commit a robbery, it was kind of adorable. I tried not to stare, but it was hard.
"This isn't to give the cabin's electricity because the tops have solar panels. The only thing I can imagine is there's cameras inside and this sends the footage, right?" I babbled on, trying to break the tension I now felt choking me.
Chase shrugged, "I can't think of any else."
As we walked deeper into the woods we passed the lake, the one where Chase and I had stood talking about his nightmares few weeks ago. As we went even further it got darker, the trees seemed to melt together now, blocking most of the moonlight. You could hear our steps crunch against the ground, louder than the sound of the crickets.
"Stay close," Chase said grabbing my hand. The feeling of his fingers intwined with mine was enough to make me black out.
I shouldn't feel like this if I love Peter, right? We're the perfect couple, we're engaged... Why am I so easily triggered by Chase's stare. His touch. I want him to touch more than my hand, I've already had dreams of him touching me everywhere.
I pull my hand away, trying to straighten my thoughts out. He looked back at me and shrugged in a way that says. 'Suit yourself.'
The cord turned brown half way and we have a harder time finding it on the ground so Chase picks it up and is now using it like a safety guide, slowly walking along with it. "We've been walking for like twenty minutes," he mutters.
A few more minutes pass by and we see lights, the glow is dim but visible through the trees. But it's still far, more than a hundred feet. The closer we get there's a large log cabin and it's lit up inside. It's an exact replica of the CC and I wonder if these were already here or built for the show. Two silver letters hung on top of it HQ. "This is it," I whisper, stating the obvious.
We crouch down like robbers and tip-toe passed the porch, sneaking to a window around the back; hoping to sneak a peak. Chase follows behind me closely. The cabin is built off the ground and so unless I was about eight feet tall, I can't see squat. "This is pointless," I whisper throwing my hands up.
"We can try the porch," he suggests.
"No, let me get on your back, like a step." I suggest a genius plan, which obviously he would not follow.
He cocks an eye brow. "No, you're not using me like a stool!"
I cross my arms, narrowing my eyes on him. "I'm not?"
"Get on my shoulders," Chase responds.
"No, you might drop me!"
"Layla, just do it!"
