Chapter Six

I felt my patience for the noisy bar rapidly wearing thin, especially with the large number of women who had approached me not only thirty minutes into the night.

It sometimes intrigued me how most of them could do that. They knew nothing about my real personality, yet they were willing to hit on me and spend a night with me. Just because I played college varsity football and was on track to joining the NFL.

I had only come out tonight because I was practically dragged here by Luke and the rest of our friends. They kept saying that my toxic energy on the field was fucking up all of our plays, claiming that the reason I hadn't been on my best game was because I hadn't been laid in a while.

But truth be told, that wasn't the reason why. I was getting way too much in my head these days with the draft coming up, not to mention everything else going on in my life. Getting laid or indulging in any other casual encounters was the absolute last thing I needed. Dealing with my drug-addicted brother's debts and his sudden decision to get clean and go to rehab was all I could think about in the past week. That and the curly-haired girl who I couldn't shake off my mind no matter how hard I tried.

The football draft was in full swing at this time of year, and I'm determined to channel my energy into it instead of meaningless flings. Still, I joined my friends tonight, looking for a brief break from the daily grind. But I hadn't expected coming out tonight to reward me in ways I wasn't looking for.

I hadn't expected to see her sitting right across from me at the usually crowded bar. She looked different but still beautiful. The purple dress she wore complimented her brown skin perfectly, and her hair which she usually wore up in a ponytail flowed way past her shoulders, unexpectedly pin-straight and different from the usual curls that danced around it.

I had to practically force myself to look away in case she caught me staring and thought it was creepy. I had probably ruined my first impression by knocking her laptop out of her hand and then acting like a fish out of water not having the balls to ask her out after knowing her for all but five minutes and offering her a ride back to her dorm.

I don't know what compelled me to go over to her but I'm glad I did because being with Mila,  had a calm vibe to it. It was like I could keep talking to her forever; keep looking at her forever and when she left with her friend all but five minutes ago I instantly wanted to mount her to my side so she would never leave again.

I don't know what the fuck is wrong with me.

Sitting at the bar, I glanced around, waiting patiently, hoping Mila would come back soon.

After a seemingly endless twenty minutes of waiting, I ordered a drink to pass the time. Just as I make up my mind and settle for a virgin mojito, a petite blonde girl in my peripheral vision takes a seat beside me; in the same spot Mila had occupied just moments ago.

The anger I thought had reached its peak before definitely bubbles over when I get a better view of her face.

Turning slightly to my left to get a better view of the woman vying for my attention, I do a double take.

It's Daniella, looking entirely different from the last time I saw her at the beginning of summer.

Seeing her again after all this time is alarming to say the least, because back then I had tried to explain as gently as possible that my priorities in the upcoming semester would not include her. It was better to end whatever was going on between us before the school term began.

Daniella had always been a sweet girl, and we had great sexual chemistry when we had our fling during the spring. However, I had made a personal decision to end our no-strings-attached relationship before it grew too serious on her part. It didn't feel right to me.
