Friday was a strange day from morning. The weather was gloomy, and I was tired of tossing and turning all night. While brushing my teeth, my toothbrush missed and the inside of my lip was swollen. On the crowded subway on my way to work, I was hit twice painfully by someone's elbow. There was nothing particularly bad about it, but small dust piled up one by one without a sound.
It has been an exceptionally long week for me. I had to be nervous all the time in an unfamiliar environment to follow Supervisor out of work, and I hardly saw the face of Team leader Han all week. I dozed off while standing in the subway, probably because of the accumulated fatigue. In a drowsy state, I climbed the station stairs and walked to the office with half-closed eyes. In the lobby crowded with crowds, I thought it would be nice if it was time to leave work soon.
On that day, the department was hectic from the morning with various meetings. Supervisor, who had been suffering from a cold that wouldn't go away a few days ago, was sighing heavily with a dying face. I, who was sitting next to him, couldn't help but be affected.
To make matters worse, just before lunchtime, Team leader Han's voice pierced the busy noise of the department and flew like a blade.
"Manager Kim, Lee Seo Dan."
Supervisor, who was half asleep, woke up and met his eyes. I shook my head slightly to mean I don't know. Supervisor's face, which rose from her seat, was already dead. As she was being dragged to one of Team leaders' desks, she ran her fingers over the marks of tears on her face.
Team leader Han behind the double monitor didn't look up even when we stood next to each other at the desk. Cough, Supervisor covered her mouth and coughed. Looking at the cold and insensitive face of Team leader Han, I felt my stomach twist with familiar tension.
Team leader Han who clicked the mouse twice turned a monitor toward us. The document floating on the wide screen was the report I submitted to Supervisor yesterday. As always, the name of Team leader Han was written in the 'cc' section of the email.
"Assistant Kim, have you checked this report?"
Team leader asked. Supervisor leaned his neck forward, looked into the screen, and shook his head.
"I haven't seen it yet."
"Did Assistant Manager Kim instruct him to write the report?"
Another question. Supervisor glanced at me and replied.
"Yes. There's quite a bit of deadline left for submission, and I thought it would be a good experience no matter how many times I revise it... ."
"It's still too early for Lee Seo Dan."
It was a cold voice. I closed my hands until my nails dug into my palms. Team leader Han typed in the number with his fingertips. The screen flipped over and a page appeared at the back.
"If you read it, you'll understand, but the first part is fine, but from here on out, it's a mess to the point of having to take it all out. It is not something that can be corrected."
"... yes."
"Lee Seo Dan is quick to learn, so I understand the desire to teach him more, but do it in moderation. It is inefficient to entrust the work with the determination to revise it again. Let him study separately, and even if the work is easy, only let Lee Seo Dan do the work that he can do without mistakes."
"Yes, sorry."
"Lee Seo Dan."
An insensitive gaze passed over to me. I replied yes with dry mouth. Unknowingly, I tried to find a ray of warmth that might be on his face.
