Despite the fact that he had spent his entire life being bullied by his older siblings, he still didn’t really want to see them get punished for what they had done. On the other hand, he didn’t want them to be allowed to carry on without any punishment.
He looked at Ryu then at his siblings then back at Ryu. Finally, he shrugged. Ryu would do what Ryu wanted to do, and he wasn’t going to stop it.
Ryu smiled. “Thank you.” He turned back toward the others. “You may leave now. I am certain that any other conversation with your brother will be much more civil.”
Nigel’s siblings nodded in agreement. They hurriedly began leaving, Swiftstrike almost running over Bloodclaw in his haste to get away. But he wasn’t fast enough.
“Wait.” All three of them slammed to a halt. “You, the very anxious one.” Swiftstrike cowered forward. “What is in your bag?”
“My bag?” Swiftstrike gulped nervously.
“Yes. What is in it?”
“My math homework.” Swiftstrike looked around anxiously. Everyone was now curious to see what Ryu would do.
“Take it out. Put it on the ground. Take three steps back.”
Swiftstrike numbly obeyed. His metal sheet of homework clattered to the ground as he rapidly scooted back as far as he could.
“Just to make sure that you have fully learned your lesson.”
Everyone jumped backward as a bolt of clear fire struck the sheet. For a moment, the clear flames licked at the surface of the metal, then the metal began to melt and bend under the flames.
Everyone watched in shock as the metal, which was supposed to be fireproof, began to melt and burn.
Swiftstrike watched in complete numbness as he watched his homework burn away before his eyes. He wasn’t sure what he was more upset about, that his homework which he had spent several hours on was burning away, or that his homework was burning. Somehow, he figured that it was the latter option which Ryu wanted him and the others to remember.
“I am certain that I will never hear of anything like this ever again. If I do….” Ryu trailed off.
The three siblings nodded again. Then they all scrambled and clawed their way through the room and toward the nearest exit. Nigel had a feeling that his father was going to be received several letters very soon.
Ryu watched them leave. Then he turned back toward Nigel.
“How is Ember and the rest of them doing?”
“Good.” Nigel’s brain scrambled as he tried to comprehend what had just happened. “Ember’s letter is about Scarefest, it’s their first.”
“Ah. I remember my first Scarefest. It was quite a memorable experience.”
“It seems like it was for them as well. Ah, Ryu?”
“Yes?”
“What just happened?”
“I just dealt with your sibling problem.”
“No, but. Oh, never mind.” Nigel’s brain still wasn’t sure it understood, but it was also certain that he wasn’t going to get a clearer answer from Ryu. “Do you want to hear this letter?”
“Of course. Should we go find Oceania and see if she is available?”
“Sure.”
Nigel followed Ryu as they left the room. He had a feeling that his life was going to be very different from here on out.
Sorry for the short chapter but I will give you a longer one than normal next time
