This is the Scarefest special (Halloween) brought to you by Ember and crew. It is also twice as long since the last update was shorter than normal.
Nigel still hadn’t shaken the feeling of having his world suddenly turned upside down, shaken and banged around quite violently, and then replaced still upside down, when he and the rest of his friends gathered in their usual meeting spot. Judging from the knowing look on Oceania’s face, Nigel guessed that she already knew about what had happened. Turtle, of course, bounded/splashed in, shook water over everybody, and eagerly flopped down asking how Ember and crew’s Scarefest had gone.
“If you would stop drenching everybody then maybe Nigel could actually get around to reading us the letter,” Oceania lightly scolded.
“I thought you liked water,” Turtle teased back.
“There’s a difference between enjoying swimming and liking getting water splashed on you by your overeager cousin. Besides, Ryu and Nigel aren’t water dragons.
Nigel smiled in answer and waved a wing. He was use to getting drenched by Turtle whenever they were together. Honestly, they could probably meet in the middle of a desert and Turtle would still show up dripping wet and manage to drench all of them. Ryu, while maybe not as thrilled, was at least patient. Which was a lot for him.
Turtle shrugged, managing to get even more water off of him and onto the others. “Anyway, what did Ember write this time, Nigel?”
Nigel pulled the letter out of his bag. He knew better than to keep it out before Turtle was done moving. Although the paper was fireproof, waterproofing was maybe not as important to fire dragons.
He unrolled the paper, smiling again at the sight of Ember’s uneven, somewhat misspelled writing. The splotches of paint on the edges indicated that Comet had been painting near, or on, the paper while Ember had been writing. Not an uncommon thing for his siblings. He had once seen Ember write and Comet draw on the same piece of paper at the same time on the same side. It had been quite an interesting sight.
Fortunately, though, the only sign of Comet’s involvement were the odd paint splatters on the edges. He had once received a letter which looked like Ember and Comet had had a battle over what to use the paper for. He hadn’t been exactly sure what the letter said, although after several hours and a little help, he had eventually more or less deciphered the letter.
“Dear Nigel and his friends,” Nigel began. “How is college going? Ryu hasn’t thrown olders off a cliff yet, has he? I hope not as I want to be there when it happens. Oh, and the others want to be there as well.” Fortunately, Ember’s third person speech did not carry over into letter writing. At least, not normally.
