THE MALE WALKED AWAY FROM HIS BROTHER SLOWLY, SEEKING RHYSAND OUT IN THE CROWD OF THE INJURED AND ANGRY. The heir of the dawn court found the male in the war tent; plotting with their fathers. The dark oak table in the centre of the area was littered with models of all the different camps and soldier placements and paper was left in every other available space. The golden hanging lantern allowed for a warmth to seep through the violence - almost comforting. He avoided Ivan Carlisle's eye as he nodded to his friend, pulling him away from the group and walking back out of the cream canvas into the dusk. He had not forgotten earlier. He had seen the high lord of dawn walk away from his daughter. He took one simple look at her still-living form and walked away. His fists clenched.
The moon reflected against armour plates wherever he looked as they walked around the camp quietly. Only Rhysand seemed truly relaxed in the growing dark. It wasn't until they had passed the nurses station, dropping off clean water from the nearest source that they stopped at the opposite edge of camp, the trees staring back at them holding vigil.
"So?" Rhysand pressed. The moonlight almost made his purple eyes glow.
"Florence." Archer stated, or more like chocked out. He had to clench his fists again. The only emotion swirling around his chest restricting his breathing. Regret suffocating from the inside out. He had thought she would be safer with them; he now knew he had been wrong. So painfully wrong. That this decision, one their father will not turn back on, could cost them everything.
"Yes, we have met. I gave her a tour." Rhysand smirked bemusedly. "Nice girl."
Archer shot him a glare. "Too nice."
"Me, or her?" He smirked again, honestly Archer was debating punching him.
"Her."
The night court male hummed, staring up at the moon. "She's human." He said softly, all trace of targeted jesting gone. "They feel things deeply, love generously."
"I want-" Archer cut himself off, cursing. I want her to be less human, I want her to have at least one cruel bone in her body. "Can we come to an agreement?"
He felt more than witnessed Rhysand's posture heighten. "What kind?"
"My sister needs protection. You want Cassian and Azriel to be safer. You want them to have more status, so you can see them more."
Rhysand had stiffened completely at the mention of his brothers.
"Pick one to keep her safe." Archer shot out. "You know what I'm doing for you. This will increase their status and give you influence over my father, do it."
He didn't need to turn around to know his friend had vanished into darkness and smoke.
