The next day*
NIGHTMERES POV,
I slowly opened my eyes to see I was looking up at a bright light. I quickly shot up to a seated position to finally notice that I was in a hospital. nobody was in the room but me so I tore the IV from my arm and ran out into the hallway I frantically looked down each end to see an empty hallway so I ran threw the hallway until I heard a voice over the intercom and I puased to listen,
"Security, patient N181195I is on the run in hallway 3 on floor 2, please bring her back to her room safely, she may be a danger to herself or others. thank you." I looked at the number on my ID bracelet and cringed when I heard stealthy foot steps behind me. I spun around quickly to see three security guards cautiously walking towards me.
"Don't come any closer! Please, I just want to be left alone!" My voice was shaky but harsh at the same time.
"Miss, we are only here to help you, we need you to return to your room now, if you don't we have been instructed to use force." I shook my head and took a step back.
"what kind of force?" The centre guard looked to the one on the right then back at me.
"A sedative, injected by needle, miss please come back to-" I didn't give him time to say the rest before turning on my heels and bolting down the rest of the hallway and turning into a dead end. my heart pounded in my chest as I heard the foot steps echo behind me I turned around and backed right up against the wall. the guards were right there, they were way to fast for me to out run in a dead end hallway so I did what I do best, pray on people's weaknesses by using my vulnerability and undoing as my saviour. I slid down the wall until I was on the floor and let tears well up in my eyes as the centre guard got closer to me with his buddies close by with a needle out and prepped for injection. I let my body vibrate uncontrollably and watched as the centre guard used a hand signal to that made the man with the needle stop moving. the centre guard knelt down in front of me.
"Tell me you name..." the guard used a gentle and sweet voice.
"Nightmere..." The guard smiled brightly before reaching out a hand.
"I'm John, now listen closely, there are to out comes to this situation... either your take my hand and we can walk back to your room or, we can sedate you and carry you back to your room, are we going to do it the easy way or the hard way?" I was too week to reach over and touch johns hand.
"The easy way..." I said with a weak voice as the images from the day before began flooding my brain and I let him pick me up and carry me back the jail cell they called a hospital room.
"Alright Nightmere, we are going to leave now, please stay here until the police get here to question you. After your questioning is done then I believe your mother, father sister and grandparents will be here to check on you." I nodded quickly as John set me down on the bed and left the room with his buddies. I slowly laid back down on the bed and looked up at the lights. then the light above me flickered causing me to flip off the bed and cup my ears as if I was waiting for a scream or a crash as the images from the accident played out like a movie in my mind and projected out into my surroundings making me feel like I was back in the street.
"Why god, why him, why did you take him! Please take me instead, take me instead!" I screamed up at the ceiling with tears starting to burn my eyes.
"Are you alright Miss... Insanity?" I looked back down at the floor and whipped the hot tears from my face.
"Do I look like I'm alright to you, do you think anyone that saw there fucking best friend killed is going to be alright?!?" I stood up slowly and turned around to see a young female police officer standing in the door way.
"Please watch your language, your on camera, and your in a hospital... and to answer your question, I suppose not, that would be severely traumatizing for someone your age... you are nine years of age, correct?" She waved a cameraman in the room and waited for my answer as she sat down in the visitors chair. I watched her sit down before crawling back into the cheap/crappie hospital bed.
"Yeah I just had my birthday three weeks ago... at the movie theatre..." I felt my eyes start to water up again as the thought of Axls sweet voice singing happy birthday to me.
"Can you tell me how close you were to Axl Haymen?" The police lady leaned forward in the chair and gave me a pitiful look almost like she knew how pain full it would be for me to even hear his name. I chuckled and whipped away a tear before it fell.
"We were really really really close, he was the only person in the hole school that saw me for who I really was, I liked him like really really liked him!" The lady looked down before asking the next question.
"Can you tell me about the accident?" I felt a pang in my chest as I shook my head.
"I really don't want to talk about it." I looked down at my hands as they started to shake again.
"If you don't tell me anything then the accusations against you pushing the boy into the street will rule you guilty in the court of law... you could go to prison for the rest of your childhood..." I narrowed my eyes at the police lady and frowned.
"There was a ten dollar bill in the street, we climbed over the fence to get it, alright, then the accident happened, there, are you happy now?" The lady shook her head and waved another person in the room that was holding a sketchpad.
"Just one more thing, can you describe the vehicle the hit your friend?" I thought for a moment before nodding.
"Yeah, um, I-it was um, it was a car, it was really low to the ground, it had a broken light on the left side, um, it had fins in the back, it was a colour changing car, and it had a Ford logo on it..." the police lady watched as the person beside her sketched out my description of the car.
"Did you see any of the numbers or letters on the licence plate?" I quickly nodded and continued to talk.
"NBLR20... I can't place the rest... I'm dyslexic so I might have mixed it up a bit..." the police lady smiled brightly and nodded.
"Thank you for your corporation with helping the police department with this case." I shrugged and continued to fiddle with the brimmed my hospital gown.
"I wish it was me and not him..." the lady gave me a saddened look as she left the room.
