"Fuck!" Chuuya yelled out, slamming his empty glass onto his desk.
Slowly, he crumpled until his head was there too. He couldn't help but think about all the different ways that interaction could have gone.
Did we always just bring out the worst in one another?
With a labored sigh, he sat up once more and drunkenly refilled his glass. Standing up, he went to stand beside the window, looking out into the night. Chuuya took a long sip.
"I got these for you."
Y/n was holding a thin red box out towards him that Chuuya gingerly took hold of.
"What, it's not gonna kill you." Y/n groaned in exasperstion as he examined the box, "Go on, open it."
"How do I know that, you are a Port Mafia executive after all."
"Just open it." she groaned, rolling her eyes.
He smiled at her annoyance and at last opened the box to reveal a soft pair of black leather gloves.
"I wanted to do something nice for you and I couldn't think of anything else. You kept talking about how you needed a new pair too? and I thought you might like the leather." Y/n began, clearly worried.
He put the box down and pulled the girl into his arms, silencing her anxieties.
"I love them, thank you. I'll always wear them."
Everyone had left him. First the Sheep, then Y/n, and then Dazai. The wasted chance to get it all back loomed over him, a storm cloud obscuring the stars.
"What hurts the most is that she felt like she couldn't tell me." he admitted to the emptiness of his office, "What hurts the most is that today? I proved her right."
How would he have acted if she had come to him five years ago with her plot? He knew her letter was right. The anger they both held was so palpable back then, he would have lashed out because of fear and she would have done the same to him. Just like what happened today.
"Come on! He's gonna catch us!" Y/n yelled, laughing as she grabbed hold of Chuuya's hand and dragged him down the hallway.
"It's your fault for dying all his bandages pink!" he complained, following the girl as she pulled them around a corner, "You're the one he's gonna be mad at."
"So worth it though."
She shot him a mischievous smile and he couldn't help but smile back. Pulling her to a stop, Y/n turned around to face Chuuya who was barely an inch away from him.
"What are you doing? We need to run!" Y/n insisted, panting slightly.
Chuuya raised his hand that was not holding hers and pushed a stray hair out of her face. Immediately, Y/n turned bright red and looked away in embarrassment.
With a practiced hand, Chuuya turned her face back to him and planted a soft kiss on her lips.
"I love you." he mumbled.
Y/n's eyes grew wide.
"You don't have to say it back, I just need you to know."
"I love you too." she cut in, stepping even closer to him, "I... I love you too."
Chuuya grabbed her by the waist and picked Y/n up, spinning her around in joy. She was full of laughter and soft smiles as he placed her back on the ground.
