---------------Jay's POV----------------
I don't know how I got here, but I'm here and my alarms going off. As I sit up I can see my bags by the door.I guess I'd better get going, I shower in a real bathroom probably for the last time in a while. Pulled my unfiorm out of the closet and Then I headed to the base. I could see the commander standing in the hangar waiting.
"Lieutenant Jay Halstead" I said as I reached out to shake his hand
"Comander Billings, looks like your gear is in locked 27."
I handed him my paperwork, and headed off to go find my gear. Looks like I got a new helmet and there was a packet I needed to fill out.
It read
"You have been issued a new stronger helmet, leave your old one here. If you have lost or damaged any of your other gear, and need a replacement Speak to Commander Billings.
Please leave any and all personal electronics in this bag, including watches, earbuds, phones, laptops, tablets, etc. They will be here when you return."
Well that's new I thought
I checked that all my gear was in tact and that I had it, before going out to wait for the rest.----------------30 mins later------------------
After the final role call everyone was in the plane getting strapped in. We would be deploying to a remote spot in Afghanistan, and trying to save civilians, and find the taliban. We haven't been told what to when we find them yet.
"All right guys look alive. 5 minutes until show time" the co pilot yelled
Everyone was mainly keeping to themselves, while double checking parachutes.
"When i call you, you may jump, you know what to do when you land. Granger..... Martin..... Halstead.............."
That's the last I heard, before I jumped.
God, I didn't realize how much I missed this, the adrenaline rush, is so powerful, it might sound stupid but, I can forget about everything else, and just focus on this. Not, Haileys case, not the emptiness I felt without her, not trying to figure anything out.
I thought I would feel, kind of like I was out of place at first, but I didn't it felt completely right. Unlike how I've felt back home ever since Hailey diseapeared.
We walked around, and rescued some of the innocent children the taliban were holding hostage. As well as disarming some of them when they tried to shoot at us.
At about 9 0 clock we would find somewhere to make camp for the night, and we took turns keeping watch. There were 7 of us so we still got a good night of sleep. We were supposed to walk around and keep doing this and then every week on Sunday, we had to hike back to the main camp, for a meeting and to give the comander a report as well as replenish our supplies.
This was the routine for about 8 months. It was pretty basic, and at times boring. But it felt right.
One Sunday we were at the base, and the commander told me I was going to be getting a new assignment. I was now the head of the group and would be getting a k9.
At the main meeting, they explained that another team and come across a stash house full of explosives and military grade gear.
So, now every team was getting a K9, and we were just supposed to be a little more cautious.
We left camp and I had, my new K9 I named her Cassie. She had big green eyes and looked like she was ready to take on the world. She is 1.5 yrs old and a Rottweiler.
We were walking through a town that looked abandoned, when Cassie pawed me that was her alert for explosives. I commanded my team to take cover and i moved in front of them. and suddenly we were thrown backwards. When I opened my eyes there was an awful ringing in my ear, and I could see Cassie dragging my guys to the side of the road. Before coming back to me. She layed down resting her head on my chest. Before starting to bark in my face. I guess she really wanted me to get up. I tried to sit up, but everything went black.
-------------48 hours later-------------------
My head hurt like hell but, if it hurts that's a good thing it means I'm still alive."Halstead you're awake good God you scared us" Andrew's said
"How long was I out and what happened" I asked in confusion
"We were kidnapped by some grandpa who had a bomb strapped to him, but your girl Cassie there saved us. She bit him and at least knocked him out, mabye killed him I'm not sure but, she hasn't left your side."
I looked down and she was laying eith her head on my chest looking up at me with her big green eyes wagging her tail.
"Wow ok, but why does my head feel like it's pounding and why do you have a black eye?"
"Either the explosion or getting beat up, this grandpa guy really thought you were faking it, and kept hitting you with a metal rod trying to get you to wake up, he beat and tortured the rest of us, trying to get info but we all held strong, and well here we are"
"Good, how are the others" I asked while I stood up and walked around. Most of them were sleeping
"Not bad considering the circumstances, we can probably head for base tomorrow"
"Alright good, listen Andrew's you rest up I'm taking watch, I've slept enough for a month"
He laughed and went to sleep.
I pet Cassie and had her do a few tricks I had been teaching her and gave her some treats before she snuggled up on my lap, even though she's way to big and then she layed down and went to sleep.
Can I get 7 votes????!
