*~Chapter Six ~*
I called Brett to pick me up once the unsettling feeling from the strange scene left my body.
I stood where the park entrance meets the roads, when shortly his car pulled up.
I didn't wait a very long time for him to show, it was merely five or six minutes.
I guess after all that running, I didn't get too far.
I walked to the other side of the car, sliding into the passenger seat.
He was drumming his fingers against the steering wheel to the beat of the music.
He was still hyped up from the party, I'm guessing. His hyper mood seemed to never end, because the party ended about an hour ago.
"Hey Luck!" He said with much enthusiasm.
I waved to him with no enthusiasm. Just watching him with this much ardor is draining the energy out of my body, leaving me restless.
"How'd you think of the party? Pretty great, huh?" He smiled at me-- the streetlights hitting his face at just the right angle so I could see most of his face.
"Yeah, pretty awesome..." I said monotonously.
He must not realize I left the party, because he's definitely not thinking through that he picked me up from the Town Park.
He probably had more fun at the party when I wasn't around...
I sighed, staring out the window. The car started moving forward, gradually picking up speed.
In a matter of minutes we were in front of my house.
I opened the car door and hopped out. The cold air hitting me along the way. I tightened the thin jacket around me, "thanks for driving me home," I smiled politely, "I had a fun time."
He said it was not a problem and that he will see me around. He started pulling out of my driveway when all of a sudden he slammed on his breaks, causing the tires to screech.
I flinched because of the sudden noise-- my eyes squeezed shut and my body tightened.
I relaxed quickly and opened my eyes again. Brett was still I the driveway for some strange reason.
He rolled down the car window and popped his head through, "Hey Luck, I'm sorry about what happened at the party. I didn't know it was coming..."
"It's fine Brett... It's none of my business anyway. It's your love life, not mine. There is no need for you to apologize."
I smiled at him, reassuring that I'm alright with it. He nodded with a grin, "thanks Luck, I'll see you later." I gave him one last wave and soon he was gone.
I walk to my front door, quietly turning the door handle. I was surprised, the front door is usually locked... I lightly pushed the door open-- making sure it doesn’t make too much noise. I stepped through, the warm air wrapping around my body. I silently closed the door, hoping to not wake up my mother.
I kicked off my shoes and tiptoed up the stairs. I was halfway up the steps, until a pseudo cough made me turn around. I looked down from the stairs and saw my mother staring at me, with her arms crossed and her foot impatiently tapping.
“Uh, hi mom,” I said anxiously, “I thought you would be sleeping.” I took a cautious stride down the step, making sure that I don’t do something that will set her off.
“Luck,” she said annoyed, making me stop in my tracks, “do you know how late it is?” She had an irritated look on her face.
“Mom, I can explain. I-”
