There was a creature straight from the book of underwater terrors that haunted every sailor man down to his very bones. This beast was known as,
The Kraken...
Thick, slimy arms that were strong enough to snap the biggest of ships in half with just a single nudge, accompanied by a giant bulbous head which was home to thick blood red eyes.
This creature was bested by no other. Even the strongest of men at sea, would shake in their boots from the mere thought of it coming to capsize their ships.
The legends of such a beast claimed if you ever looked it in the eye, you would never live to tell the tale, for the Kraken shows no mercy to anyone. The whispers of his tales always told that if you were dumb enough to provoke the beast, you had to have gone mad because the Kraken's rage could be measured to none.
This fearless dweller of the deep held a feared place in the humans' hearts as they continuously were flipped over in their boats and crashed back to the shores from which they had come. All caused by a single yet enormous tentacle that appeared seemingly out of nowhere.
Knowing that such a monstrous creature couldn't be stopped, a single village just near the giant cave where they claimed the Kraken came to rest attempted to strike a non-consented deal with the Kraken.
The plan was to be that once every half a century or so, the most beautiful woman in the village would be prepared and sent off to his cave. There she would be offered as a bride to curb the rage within the Kraken and seek favor to spare the people of the village.
Even though the beast himself never acknowledged the existence of this exchange, it seemed he would not attack the village if they followed up on their end of the deal. So, the people of the village did so faithfully, with deeply sown fear that the Kraken would wipe them all out in the blink of an eye should they miss the bridal sacrifice.
But what would happen if the village ran short of brides to send?
