"And open," I heard a voice instruct me, and I reluctantly opened my eyes to the harsh, bright light. The realization hit me like a sledgehammer—I was being drug-tested. How ironic that, I, Minji, I found myself in this surreal situation, getting drug tested.

Perez, James, and Mia stood beside me, flanked by a pair of stern-faced police officers. The gravity of the situation weighed heavily on my disoriented mind.

"I'm going to have to call her parents," the lady in charge of the drug test announced, her voice firm and unyielding. Perez shifted uncomfortably behind me, clearly apprehensive about the situation.

My response was lighthearted, a nervous chuckle escaping my lips. "Her parents aren't here," Perez quickly interjected, speaking on my behalf. I pointed down to the ground in an exaggerated and giddy manner, further emphasizing the grim reality of the situation.

The lady's stern expression softened into one of concern. "Can I talk to you?" I heard her request, her tone lowered to a hushed whisper. Perez nodded, and they walked away, their conversation shrouded in secrecy.

Seated on the curb, Mia and James flanked my sides, offering silent support. The weight of the night's events and the mention of my parents hung heavily in the air.

"I'm sorry about your parents," James murmured, his voice filled with sympathy. I simply shrugged, unable to find the right words to convey my feelings. Mia reached out to rub my back in a comforting manner, her touch providing a small sense of solace.

Perez and the lady returned, her expression slightly softer. "The best I can do is drive you guys home, but we're going to have to do a background check," she explained, her assistant standing beside her.

James, however, adopted a defensive tone. "And do you have a warrant for that?" he questioned, his protective instincts flaring.

The lady raised a brow in response, her patience wearing thin. "No, but I can drop by with one if you'd like," she retorted, her words tinged with authority. James wisely chose to hold his tongue, and Mia seemed overwhelmed, her hair was flat and not as curly, burying her face in her hands.

Perez extended his hand toward me, and I gratefully took it, letting him hoist me up. As he hugged me, his whispered words were filled with emotion. "Get some rest, okay?" he urged, and I couldn't help but respond in kind, returning the hug. The unspoken emotions hung heavy in the air, and everyone present wore a somber expression, even the assistant.

The blonde lady led me to her car, and I glanced back to wave goodbye to my friends. Hope lingered in my heart that I would see them tomorrow at school, and that the events of this turbulent Halloween night would soon become a distant memory.

at in the back of the police car, the ride home remarkably silent. The events of the night had left me drained, and all I wanted was to sleep. Resting my head against the window, I watched the world outside pass by in a blur.

We pulled up in front of my house, and a sense of exhaustion washed over me. I couldn't help but wonder how they had known where I lived. My voice was slurred as I tried to unlock the car door, but it didn't budge. Frustration welled up as I attempted to get out.

"Thank you," I mumbled, my head still heavy with fatigue. I was eager to get inside and find some comfort.

"Minji, do you have any idea who did this to you?" the lady inquired as she turned to me. Her question brought a pause to my sluggish movements. I settled back into my seat and let out a sigh.

"I already told you everything," I sulked, my voice laced with frustration. I had recounted the night's events as clearly as I could, but I still couldn't comprehend what had happened.
