The next day, we were all zombies. I was standoffish and didn't want what the hipster with the plastic baggie was offering. I refused it, keeping my eyes on the double doors, waiting for Hanni Pham to enter the school. She interested me.

"Jeez, you could relax, you know," James muttered, but I shrugged.

"Just keeping an eye out," I said.

When she entered, I immediately minded my own business. Perez snorted.

"What a weirdo. If you're gonna stare, make yourself known," he said, voicing his own mentality. I, on the other hand, was a creep. I turned around, and she was by her locker near me.

"Hey," I said. She looked at me, and a hint of recognition crossed her face.

"Oh, it's Minji," she said. I nodded.

"Yeah, Minji," I replied as she put her stuff in her locker.

Hanni continued to organize her locker, and I couldn't help but admire her effortless grace, even in such a mundane task. Her presence was intriguing, and I decided it was time to strike up a conversation.

"So, how's your day going so far?" I asked, attempting to break the ice.

She glanced at me, a faint smile touching her lips. "It's been okay. Yours?"

I shrugged nonchalantly. "The usual, you know, school stuff." I tried to sound casual, but deep down, my curiosity about her was piqued. "I didn't expect to see you here," I added.

Hanni closed her locker and turned to face me fully. "I just transferred here. It's all still pretty new to me," she explained.

"Right" I sympathise

We engaged in a casual conversation, discussing her former schools, our interests, and her impressions of the new environment. Hanni had a warm and easygoing demeanor, making it easy for me to open up.

As we talked, I couldn't help but feel a sense of relief, as if I had found someone who could bring a fresh perspective into my life. Hanni's presence had the power to make my day feel a little less mundane, and I found myself looking forward to the days to come.

Hanni's laughter, a delightful cascade of sound, reverberated through the school corridor. It was one of those moments where a simple question had brought forth unexpected camaraderie. She turned to me, her eyes gleaming with curiosity, and playfully challenged me. "Okay, okay, a sentence to describe the kids here," she proposed.

I pondered for a moment, thinking about the assortment of students at our new school. With a half-smile, I finally replied, "Super rich kids with nothing but loose ends." Hanni's laughter rang out again, as if my response had struck a chord. "Wow, no different from Ravenswood then, huh?" she mused, a hint of nostalgia in her voice.

I shrugged in response, my curiosity piqued about her old school, Ravenswood. It was like she had opened a door to a world I had yet to explore. The topic of conversation shifted as I brought up the events of the previous night. "So, last night," I began, and Hanni gracefully brushed a stray strand of hair from her face, revealing the way her eyes sparkled with amusement.

"That was awesome, right?" I asked, a touch of uncertainty in my voice. Hanni squinted at me, her expression thoughtful. "Yeah," she finally admitted, her voice carrying a hint of contemplation. "You're much different at night," she added, her words causing a faint blush to rise in my cheeks.

I offered a self-deprecating explanation, "Well, I was in a careless state, had nothing to lose." Hanni's nod indicated her understanding. "It was a good first impression," she remarked, her interest now fully ignited.

"Really," I challenged, maintaining eye contact. Her response was refreshingly direct, leaving no room for doubt. "You're stuck with me now," she declared bluntly, a playful smile accompanying her words.

"Shame," I replied, matching her playfulness, and her laughter filled the corridor once again. Our burgeoning connection held a promise of more meaningful moments to come. But before we could delve further into our conversation, Perez's voice cut in, reminding us of the realities of our surroundings. "Okay, wrap it up," he quipped, to which I responded with a playful, dirty look.

As Hanni collected her books and began to walk away, she turned back to me, her eyes holding a twinkle of anticipation. "I'll see you around, Minji," she said, leaving me with a sense of excitement for the uncharted connections we were just beginning to explore.

After a pleasant chat, we exchanged contact information, and I couldn't help but smile as I walked away, feeling that maybe, just maybe, this school year had something unexpected and exciting in store.

I watched as Hanni walked away, her figure gracefully moving through the bustling school corridor. My thoughts were still lingering on our conversation, the connection we had made, and the feeling of something new and exciting on the horizon.

Jack's nudge brought me back to the present, and I turned to face the group with a questioning look. Their unimpressed expressions reminded me that I had been lost in my own thoughts for a moment.

"What?" I asked, genuinely curious.

Perez rolled his eyes. "You've got it bad, huh?" he teased, his tone lighthearted.

I couldn't help but blush at the comment, but I quickly regained my composure. "I don't know what you're talking about," I replied, attempting to play it cool.

The group shared knowing looks, and I realized that there was no escaping their teasing. With a sigh, I decided to embrace it. "Alright, maybe I'm interested. So what?"

The guys erupted in laughter, and I joined in, not taking myself too seriously. The truth was, I was intrigued by Hanni and excited to see where this new connection might ignite.
