Vladislav watched Mia's worried face while she was waiting for an answer. He saw how distraught she looked and realized she must have really loved Danila. They had only been together just over a month but the bond between them felt unbreakable.
He slowly nodded and brought her into him to hug her and quietly shush her.
"What's going to happen now?" She asked in between quiet tears while he awkwardly held her but she didn't mind, she felt exhausted and was grateful for the physical support.
"We're going to go back to Moscow." He responded simply.
"But what about all the dead guys...and Mr. Zhao...what's he going to do now?" She sat up and looked at him with naïveté. He smiled at her like at a child and pulled her back into him.
"Don't worry about any of that. Your grandpa is a good problem solver." He spoke proudly. They sat together as Mia sniffled and Vladislav held her.
On the way back to Moscow a few hours later, both Mia and Danila slept as Vladislav sat with his eyebrows furrowed and thought about the future. He wasn't angry, on the contrary, he respected Danila more than ever for protecting what was his.
Fuck the Zhaos, thought Vladislav. This was supposed to be a huge opportunity for him to break into the Chinese market. Now, it was dead and it seemed that any future attempts to break into that market were cursed for the next few years or even decades. But if they decided to do business this way, there was no way he would allow it.
His granddaughter was his own diamond, she was the future, he was preparing her for great things, anyone who touched her or laid his eyes on her, would suffer the same fate. He was confident that Danila was on the same page and was proud that he was becoming part of the family.
For the next week, Danila would stay in a private Moscow hospital. As soon as they arrived in Moscow, Vladislav sent Mia home as he arranged for Danila to be transported to the hospital but early the next day, Mia quietly knocked on the door of Danila's hospital room and discreetly walked in.
She saw him sleeping in the hospital bed, his left shoulder heavily bandaged and an IV attached to his vein.
She sat down quietly on a chair beside the bed, looking at him and around. Sighing heavily, she sat there as he slept and wondered what on earth was happening to her life.
She didn't want to admit it but her feelings for Danila could no longer be ignored. She loved Kirill, she knew that without any doubt. She missed him terribly, she wanted him back in her arms and she wanted to spend every second with him but...clearly, she wanted something with Danila too? Did she? She wasn't sure. She couldn't think straight.
Danila stirred and she quickly stood up to approach his bed. He looked tired and dehydrated, his lips chapped and his eyes squeezed shut. He groaned in bed as he struggled to open his eyes but saw her beside him and a small smiled crept onto his face.
She grabbed his hand but said nothing as she took in his appearance.
"How are you feeling?" He asked in almost a whisper, trying to clear his throat.
"I'm all good. Thank you for saving my life...how are you feeling?"
"I've had better days." He replied simply.
"I'm so sorry all that happened...where did you get shot?" Mia asked timidly.
"Right in the bone." He smiled weakly but was overjoyed she was standing beside him. "But not in the vein, your wish for my death didn't come true." He added and she suddenly looked up at him with sorrow in her eyes,
