Levi's POV
I finished bringing in some new things for Hanji's room when I caught her and Isabel talking and giggling like mischievous children. I see it too often to know they are plotting something. Isabel gets up, patting her stomach before making her way out of Hanji's room. She leans into me, whispering under her breath.
"Jeez, Levi! She's awesome! Can we keep her?!" I'm surprised she was able to keep her voice down despite shouting and beaming with joy.
"It's only until she gains her memories back, Isabel." I scoff, hoping that it wouldn't be too long. "Let's just keep her company until then. I'm sure once she gets them back, she'll continue to keep in touch with you. You're already bonding." Isabel's eyes continue to shine like stars as she walks out. I swear I heard her say, "Yes!" as she walked into the kitchen.
I cleared my throat, pointing to the box I just carried in. "Here's some things for you: pillows, blankets, and bedsheets. I hope you don't mind the color blue. Later today, if you want, I can take you and Isabel to the store so you can get some new clothes. I won't let you continue wearing that same outfit day and night."
Hanji smiles, getting to her feet and clapping her hands. "Awe, how kind of you!"
"It's because it's disgusting. I don't understand how you can stand the thought of wearing the same clothes every day and every night." Hanji gave a loud scoff, putting her hands on her hips in a really dramatic way. She opened her mouth to say something, but no words escaped her lips. "Just shout or something when you're done."
I went to the living room and collapsed onto my couch. There were so many things to do, and inviting Hanji to stay at our place put more weight on my shoulders. With the school season starting soon, I need to prep for my classes. Another school year teaching brats. That would surely make this next year worse.
It wasn't long until I heard Isabel's pattering footsteps running behind me and upstairs. No doubt she was going to meet Hanji again. Ever since we 'adopted' her into our family, she never had any female friends. She only stayed close to me and Farlan. We think of her as our sister, and she thinks of us as her brothers. But Hanji was like a sister to Isabel. I hope when she gets her memories back, she and Isabel will remain friends instead of fading away and leaving an empty hole in us all.
I closed my eyes, feeling the darkness take over as I slept. It only felt like a few seconds, but turns out, it was hours. It grew pitch black outside when I woke up from my slumber. No one woke me up. Groaning and grunting to my feet, I decided to walk upstairs to check on the girls.
"And that's why Levi doesn't work in his classroom alone." Isabel finished her sentence, beaming with joy. "You know... Levi's not a bad guy... and I hope you can stay with us forever."
Hanji rolled her shoulders, smiling softly. "I... I wish. But I don't know what I'm missing. Maybe I have a family out there or-."
"Don't tell me that you think you're married."
"That's the thing, Isabel, I don't know. I wish I knew, but... it'll be impossible to know unless I get my memories."
They sat in silence for a little while before I cleared my throat and knocked on the white doorframe. "You guys didn't wake me up."
"We were so busy talking that we didn't realize the time," Isabel says with a smile on her face. "I'm hungry though. How about... pizza? Yeah! Pizza! Pizza time!"
I turned to Hanji, waiting for her approval. She nods her head and smiles as well. "Pizza sounds fine, Levi."
"I'll call the pizza place then."
"You're the best, Levi-Bro!"
I walked out of Hanji's room without acknowledging Isabel's words. I just wondering if I'm doing the right thing in having Hanji stay here. What she said about the marriage thing somewhat tickled me. 'Bothered' is the correct word. What if I'm taking her away from a husband or wife? Maybe children if she had any. Is it wrong for me to keep her here as she recovers?
