In the early summer afternoon, a refreshing cool breeze swept through the air.
Su Yi sat in a wheelchair, surrounded by a garden of colorful flowers and trees, eyeing a plate of watermelon in the pavilion with watering mouth.
Although it was early summer, Wind City leaned towards the south, and the juicy watermelons were already ripe with their vivid red colors. Su Yi imagined the sweetness spreading in her mouth as she looked at them.
Just as she daydreamed about the watermelon in the pavilion, a crisp female voice sounded behind her, and her wheelchair was gently pushed back into the house.
"Miss, why are you out again? It's windy here. What if you catch a cold?"
It was her maid Yan Shen who spoke. As her name implied, it combined "swallow's nest" (Yanwo) and "ginseng" (Renshen). Her superstitious mother firmly believed that names could bring good fortune. The names of the maids and servants around her spanned from licorice to wolf berry to abalone, and so on.
Her mother had gone through some unknown medical book and picked out names believed to bring longevity, to the point that, during a visit by a doctor to prescribe medication for Su Yi, over a dozen people responded when the doctor called out the prescription.
The doctor was so startled by the loud noise that she dropped the medicine box she was holding. This was primarily because Su Yi had a delicate and fragile constitution. It is more accurate to describe it as a sickly body rather than simply referring to it as a "medicine jar."
When Su Yi was younger, a Taoist priest who appeared out of nowhere told her mother that she would not live past the age of twelve. True to his prediction, at the age of twelve, Su Yi suffered from a high fever. Despite her mother's desperate search for a miracle doctor, Su Yi succumbed to her illness and passed away.
The person who took her place was another Su Yi, who comes from a different time and space in 21st-century in China, who shares the same name.
That's right!
Su Yi traveled through time. Initially, she was a hardworking and dedicated designer. After enduring repeated mistreatment from clients and spending half a month revising the 007 draft, she tragically passed away in front of her computer.
Before she passed away, she was still making modifications to the drawings with a mouse in her hand.
What an inspiring story! This report will undoubtedly become the front page headline of the People's Daily and ignite a wave of enthusiasm.
Consumed by anger, Su Yi wished she could vent her frustration on the demanding customers at the other end of the network.
How could they ask for so much?! How could they keep requesting changes?!!
She still needed to save tens of thousands of yuan for the down payment to buy a house!
Su Yi had no place to vent her grievances. When she began her time travel journey, she felt overwhelmed with sadness, contemplating ending her life along with her client while holding the medicine jar.
However, upon further reflection, she realized that being able to time travel meant she had the opportunity to start anew. It became clear to her that she was no longer the living Su Yi, as the original Su Yi whom she had taken over had an even more tragic fate—she was in fact dead.
After reflecting on it, Su Yi was no longer upset, but she was far from feeling enlightened.
This was due to the fact that, while she was at least alive, the Miss Su Yi whose identity she had assumed was in extremely poor health. She experienced difficulty breathing after walking long distances, became sick when exposed to strong winds, and often vomited after eating too much.
