The second floor was quiet and uneventful, just as Yang Wan had mentioned. This area was for private rooms, frequented by people with some money.
"Let's check out the fifth floor," said Ji Qingchi.
Su Yi was puzzled, "How do we get there?"
Ji Qingchi coughed, "Of coure we'll use the same trick."
"Aren't the upper floors reserved for high officials? Your Highness, the way you dressed right now doesn't look like a rich person'', Su Yi reminded her, holding back an eye roll.
"If we go up, we'll be caught for sure."
"So, what should we do?"
"Hmm..." Su Yi didn't know either. Feeling a bit tired, she leaned against the pillar in the corridor, her mind wandering. Ji Qingchi noticed where she was looking, and suddenly, an idea came to her.
" I got it."
"What solution has your Highness come up with?"
Ji Qingchi did not answer, but held Su Yi in her arms and climbed up the pillar like a gecko, reaching the fifth floor.
Su Yi almost screamed, when she looked down and saw how high up they were.
Oh my god, what kind of kung fu is this? It's terrifying.
They found an empty room, and Ji Qingchi pulled Su Yi inside.
"Quick, come in. It's dark on the second floor, so they didn't notice us. But they'll find us soon, so let's hide."
"...Okay."
Su Yi's heart was pounding, but she managed to calm down. Just then, she heard a familiar female voice behind her.
"Miss Su? Your Highness Ninth Prince?"
They turned to see Feng Ruoqing, tied up like a dumpling, wriggling on the bed, trying to free herself.
It seemed their unintentional search led them to the right person. Su Yi rushed forward to untie her.
"Miss Feng, how did you end up here? And why did someone ask me to ransom you?"
"Don't mention it." Feng Ruoqing looked bitter.
"I was gathering herbs when I accidentally trespassed on the territory of the people running this inn. They aren't legitimate businesspeople. No matter what I said, they thought I was a spy sent to sabotage them, so they captured me."
Feng Ruoqing explained how she stumbled upon a group of black-clad individuals loading unconscious women and babies into a carriage while she was herb gathering in the countryside. Being a doctor with no fighting skills, she was terrified and tried to run, but they caught her.
"They wanted to kill me, but a woman stopped them. Instead, they tied me up and brought me here."
Ji Qingchi interrupted, "What did the woman who stopped them look like?"
Feng Ruoqing frowned, "I never saw her face. She kept it covered the entire time, even wore a mask in the inn. She...dressed improperly, wearing a revealing red dress in this cold weather. She didn't look like a decent person."
Su Yi coughed, "You must be talking about the innkeeper. Maybe it's just her personal style."
Feng Ruoqing was from Changsheng Valley and came from a decent family, she obviously disapproved of Hua Ying's attire.
Feng Ruoqing shook her head lightly, not wanting to comment any further, and continued.
"The masked woman brought me here, asked where I was from. I refused to say, so she kept me tied up. Once, she was injured and forced me to treat her. After I did, she demanded I stay as the inn's doctor. I refused, saying I was already employed by the Su family. She got angry and said I'd used their resources, so someone had to pay a ransom for my release."
