DHRUV'S POV:

"She did? Your mother?"

She simply nodded at my question.

"How? Why? For what?" I asked a little too fast.

She removed her seatbelt and turned her upper body to face me completely.

"For everything. For not being there all these years. She said she was sorry and she had made a terrible mistake."

I tilted my face and looked up before looking back at her, "Nope. Just not seeing it."

"Yess. It was shocking for me too. Weird even. And I know what she did was not good but.....she wasn't entirely in the best state of mind."

"What do you mean?" I knitted my eyebrows together in confusion.

"Dad...he was cheating on her.....with multiple women. She told me. She just needed someone to blame for his lost love. And she found me. The reason for Dad's absence. I mean Dad did want a son. And he was not happy when he didn't get one. But....that doesn't excuse his actions. And nor does it excuse my mother's. I know. "

Oh Shit!

I did not think of that. He doesn't look like a man who would cheat.

"Didn't your mom confront him?" I asked, unable to digest the new information.

"Nope. That's the thing. She loved him way too much. He doesn't deserve it. She chose her broken family over no family at all......Agh...God! I can't believe it!" She straightened up and leaned her back against the seat.

"Are you fine?"

Stupid question.

She just came to know that her dad was cheating on her mom and she had to live all these years without her mother's love because of that.

She took a long sigh and looked at my worried face.

"I forgave her......Not because it wasn't her fault at all. But for myself. I wanted to forgive her. And I want her to be a part of my life like normal mothers are. That's why I did......You know, maybe all this time, I have been searching for some excuse for her behaviour towards me. I couldn't find any. I have now and I feel so much better after she and I talked. So much lighter."

I smiled at her. If she's happy, that's all I needed.

She looked into my eyes for what felt like a few minutes and then squinted her eyes, "And by the way, mister....what was up with you today, huh?"

I scratched my cheek with my finger looking away from her.

"What?" I asked.

I know exactly what she means.

She chuckled and said, "You should have seen Ruhi and Garima di...especially Ruhi. Their expressions were priceless! "

"Oh....I did! You have no idea what more I wanted to say to them but I couldn't. They are your sisters at the end. But I was so angry when I heard them talking to you like that!"

She stopped giggling and held my hand.

"I love you so much."

"I love you too." I brought her hand which was holding mine to my lips and placed a light kiss on her fingers.

"And that reminds me," She looked at the back seat and then back at me.

"You shouldn't have brought so many cakes...My sisters already think I have gained some weight. I think I should start some diet or something...." She pouted her lips and I cupped her face.
