He floated through the air lifelessly, watching as his rescuer led them to a jet on the mainland. They landed, as Revenant slowly stood, looking at the man adorned in armor and a green cloak.
"Follow."
"I can't really move that fast. They screwed with my body." This "Doom" turned, a slight annoyance in his motions, as the same green energy as before swarmed his body. Almost immediately, he was back to full functionality. He stretched his arms, chuckling. "Thanks."
The man turned back and entered the jet, saying nothing more. Revenant followed, watching as the door closed behind him.
"Sit." The man outstretched his hand, pointing at a seat with an open palm. Revenant once again complied with the man's orders.
"So, I don't want to disrespect the skinsuit that just freed me, but what do you want with me?"
"Doctor Doom has need of an assassin, and you have ample skills and abilities."
"Okay, what's with the "Doom speaks in third person" bit?" The man sitting across from him glared at him into submission. Him, Revenant. "Sorry."
"I will overlook your impudence and assume you do not know who you speak to. I am Victor Von Doom, king of Latveria and the greatest mind to ever live. Unlike you, my ambitions are for the benefit of humanity."
"And what are your ambitions?"
"I will unite the world under one leadership, mine."
"And you think you're willing to rule... why?"
"I need not explain my qualifications to any man, let alone a child inhabiting a metallic body." Revenant chuckled.
"You sure know a lot about me, or at least you claim to. What do you know of my ambitions?"
"You, Kaleb Cross, seek to cross the dimensional threshold and reunite with your lover. I can assist you, if you assist me."
Kaleb tilted his head, confused.
"You can get me to Gwen?"
"I am the greatest scientific mind and the most powerful sorcerer to ever walk this realm. Nothing is beyond me, and nothing is above Doom."
"So... why use me? Why not just take over the world?"
"Unifying the planet under one banner requires more... subtlety than conquering it by force. Besides, I am feeling benevolent. If you work for me in realizing my goals, I will give you the tools to realize yours."
"Well, shit, that's all you had to say. What first?"
"I did not just sojourn over to America to free you from prison. I engaged in negotiations with the leader of the free world. With methods you could not begin to comprehend, I have stacked the dominos into such perfect positioning that if anything happens to him, I alone gain control of the most powerful country in the world. So, Revenant, you are going to kill the president of the United States."
Revenant froze in disbelief. If he could blink, if his jaw could drop, if he could smile...
"The most powerful man in the world... he'll be begging at my feet."
"He is neither the most powerful man in the world, nor will he beg. He'll be dead before he knows what's happening, that is why you are here. Make no mistake about your role, Cross. You are here as the silent blade carrying out the will of Doom, nothing more."
