As Imani drove home through the rain-slicked streets, her mind was still buzzing with the events of the day. The laughter of her children echoed in her memory, and the promising moments with Leonardo lingered in her thoughts. However, a sudden twinge in her abdomen brought her back to the present, reminding her of the practicalities of life.

She realized she needed to make a quick stop for pads. Parking in front of a convenience store, she hurried inside, trying to shield herself from the downpour. With the pads in hand, she headed towards the exit, eager to get back to the warmth of her car. But as she approached the door, her steps faltered at the sight of the intern boy, huddled on the ground just outside the store, rain soaking through his thin shirt.

"Hey, are you okay?" she asked, concern lacing her voice as she crouched down next to him. His eyes were shut tightly, his breaths coming in ragged gasps. Without a word, Imani gently placed a hand on his shoulder, trying to offer some form of comfort.

He flinched at her touch, his eyes fluttering open to reveal a mix of pain and embarrassment. "I-I'm sorry," he stammered, his voice barely audible over the sound of rain pounding against the pavement.

Imani could see he was in no condition to be left alone. "Let me help you up," she offered, her tone soft but determined. With a careful arm around his waist, she helped him to his feet, her concern deepening as she noticed his disheveled appearance and the slight tremors that shook his frame.

"Can you tell me what happened?" she asked gently, her voice laced with empathy. She guided him to a nearby bench, where they could sit and shield themselves from the rain. The boy hesitated for a moment.

"I can take you to a hospital." Imani says concerned.

Imani noted the intern's fearful expression, realizing that her offer had triggered an uneasiness within him. Sensing his discomfort, she swiftly recalibrated her approach, understanding the need for a gentler, more cautious approach.

"It's okay," she murmured softly, giving him a reassuring smile. "Okay, I won't take you to the hospital," she said, her voice soft and reassuring. "But can you at least tell me what's going on? I want to help you, but I need to know what I'm dealing with."

The intern's gaze flickered towards her, a mixture of fear and apprehension clouding his eyes. He seemed torn, as if battling an internal conflict about whether to confide in her or continue protecting his secret at all costs.

Imani maintained a patient silence, giving him the space and time he needed to gather his thoughts. She didn't want to pressure him or make him feel more vulnerable than he already did. Instead, she focused on emanating a sense of trust and understanding, hoping that it would encourage him to open up.

"Let's find a way to handle this together," she said, her voice unwavering with determination. "You don't have to face this alone."

Imani's words seemed to provide the intern boy with a small measure of solace, as his tense posture gradually relaxed.
